I am replacing the right half shaft. the manual says to just pull the half shaft out but the diagram shows a c clip that must be on the inside of the transaxle. I have tried gently prying the inner cv joint to remove the shaft but it is not working. what am i doing wrong. thanks.

:00000732:

try prying not so gently :P

sometimes they stick, pry, rotate, pry, rotate, pry, rotate, etc until it comes loose. Make sure you have your drain pan ready for all the fluid, unless you already drained it

Pull harder!

Yeah and drain the tranny first. God that fluid smells horrible.

there shouldn't be any support brackets. the driver's side has one but not the pass side

Not trying to step on anyones toes here but he didn't mention the trim model of his car. The 420a cars the long shaft would be the passenger side which would be the one if any to have a bracket. They doesn't have one though.
Try to keep the shaft as close to the position it would be in with the car put together while prying. otherwise it becomes slightly cocked in the trans which could make it more difficult to get out.

i ended up cutting mine in half

just so i could get in there and actually pry it out
(passenger side)

cv got completely stuck in the hub

took like 3 minutes heating with a tourch
and a couple of realllllly hard blows with a sledge

these things arent fun.
