98 2.0L FWD non turbo. couple of basic questions. the transaxle fluid shown for this car is a mopar part number on a sticker on the bottom of the transaxle. while turbo models call for 75-90 wt gear oil. can someone tell me if the mopar oil is another type of gear oil or can i us the 75-90 wt gear oil. 2nd question is ...do the manual gearbox and the transaxle share oil or are the seperate sumps? thanks. I did search for these topics but the search engine did not come up with anything.

This is a cut and paste from the chiltons :
For all vehicles with manual transaxles, except 1995-98 2.0L non-turbo engine, use Hypoid gear oil SAE 75W-85W, or 75W-90W conforming to API specifications GL-4 or higher. For 1995-98 2.0L non turbo engines equipped with manual transaxles, use Texaco MTX fluid FM.

The trans fluid is a Chrysler product. even Texaco service stations didnt know what I was talking about when I was looking for it. Royal Purple sells a product that I cross referenced that was a replacement. It has some sort of additive in it. If my memory serves me correctly one of the additives is kerosene. It costs something like $10 - $15 dollars from the dealer if you can still get it. the last time I needed some I went to the Chrysler dealer and they told me they stopped carrying the stuff. The Mitsu dealer could still get it for me but as I said it cost me like $12 a quart. I dont know know how important the additives are but I figured at that price the next time I needed to put trans fluid in my car I was going to get the Royal Purple stuff and use that.

It is all one unit all using the same fluid.
