i have a 1995 Galant ES which I have already replaced the alternator twice. I also bought a brand new battery as well. I replaced the alternator and battery with brand new ones about 3 weeks ago and my car is dead now. Looking at the alternator it seems that the oil filter wire has come undone, which i can easily hook back up. then there is a black bracket that is hanging loose, but I'm not sure where it goes. Why would my alternator continue to lose it's power? if anyone can help it would be appreciated, also i've noticed it is idling high and it doesn't really like to shift into gear that great either. i think there may be an electrical problem....

Maybe you can replace a new power cable from your alternator to your battery. old power cable very often corrosion and cause current high resistance 2and, power cable corrosion also will cause loosen connector and cause low current recharge. thrid, over draw on current for your HI-FI sound systems or high current lighting, also can cause the alternator overloaded and damage. basically, the battery only help support to start your engine, thereafter the alternator were support all electricla or electronic porducts inside your car, at the same time also recharge your battery, since the battery alway need to start your engine. so if you equip too much additional electricla products, the recharge current from the alternator may not able enough to support, which mean instead of only alternator, your other electricla system will also draw power from your battery and cause your battery alway undercharge.

well i have power windows and locks, cruise control and all that. my radio is just basic stock and doesnt even have a cd player in it. when i bought the new alternator i got the 75 amp, maybe i should have gotten the 90 amp. i will check the power cable also and see what i can come up with. we jumped it off a few minutes ago and completely unhooked the battery, and the car stayed running. but as soon as i hooked the battery back up and turned the car off, it wouldnt start again.....

it sound like your battery is either flag or unrecharge. since you dont install additional high power consumption products, and you also have just change the new alternator.

may i know are this car you brought in new or used car

Try
1) change the recharge power cable and connector from alternator to battery

2) (User Car) check the wiring inside your car, did any old electric component where you already replace it by new, but the old componet is still exsit.

Example: you have a old alarm systme installed, but you replace it by a later alarm system at the shop. normally, the shop will dismantle old one and than replace the new one. but some lazy guy may not really dismantle it, they just simply disconnect the siren and signal indicator wiring and left the old system laying there where you don't know. now maybe the old alarm system may malfunction and start in alet where you also not aware of it, since siren and signal wire had disconnected.

This happen in the pass, a new battery flag after 2 weeks of installed. change alternator, change rectifier, change power controller, change power cable etc. ending the battery is still flag. So after start to check all over the wiring inside the car. finally discover that there is 2 alarm system controller inside the compartment and 1 of the unuse old alarm system was in active and cause the battery flag

.

are you buying mitsu alternators, or some cheap "autozone" type alternators?
if its the latter, THATS why they're failing. Use ONLY mitsu units and you shouldnt have a problem.
