I'm not sure if some of you read a previous topic of mine....about water in the rear spoiler. When I open up the trunk I can hear a little bit of sloshing around...not much, but enough.

Anyway I opened the trunk tonight & noticed that there are (4) bolts that I thought was holding it on. After removing the (4) bolts, I still could not remove it. Makes me think that the rubber between the spoiler & the trunk has some sort of adhesive on it.

Anyone know?

I'm taking it to the dealership Monday & they said that they would look at it, but if at all possible, I wanted to just do it myself & skip the trip.

Thanks all! :)

original OEM standard this spoiler has 1 positioning bolt stud and nut at each side and in between with 3m double side type. that all.

If you want to remove it, you can use a plastic card (flexible but stff euough) and apply some soap water on the double side type, than you slot in the plastic card into it, than you separte the spoiler.

to install back,
standard installation, you need to apply 3m anti coorosion compond on the 4 hole and wait for it to dry out, than apply silicon on the surronding of the hole + both that you tighten the nuts.

job done

Don't know if they have some easier way to do it. Pop a can of spinich & watch the guy just rip it off. Ahg ahg ga ga ga ga ga....toot...toot!

I wanna hear it for myself. Makes me wonder how the heck water got in there to begin with since it seems to be pretty waterproof (no open seals).

Taking a really close look at mine...I noticed that there is a small gap on the outer side of the adhesive. It is the same on the drivers & the passenger side. Just maybe 1/16 gap. Very small....but maybe just big enough to let water in.
I don't know. Plusd I wanted to take the wing off & use my buffer to get a few little scratches out....but ow well. When I'm at the dealership.....& they have the wing off....I'll just do it there & be done with the scratches once & for all.
Scratches were complimentary from the dealership since day 1.

Ditto on the scratches. I noticed I have a gap in mine too... if you look even with the trunk, you can see the adhesive they use to hold down the spoiler.

Is better make sure your dealer has apply 3m anti corrosion and silicon for waterproofing before install back the spoiler.

In-fact they should apply some silicon surrounding on the hole drill, because the hole size is slightly biggest than the both, but according oem installation standard just simply rely on the 3m double side type to act as a waterproofing material. but this double side type sometime may not sit properly into the surface trunk and cause a small hollow gap or bubble in between. gap will cause water leaking. as for the bubble after awhile under hot sun the bubble will gradually expand, eventually it form a gap and water start to leak through this gap into the trunk. so to prevent water for leaking, the best way is to apply silicon at the surronding hole.

Well now that you've got it off, why not just go for the c/f one. I doubt your wife will notice the difference

But in actual fact, which type of spoiler do you guy prefer, the normal high rise spoiler or the Latest EVO 10 spoiler. carbon fibre printed spoiler, so far as what i understand, made of real C/F spoiler are extreme costly. whiles, those i can see in market, majority are made of fibre glass. wieght in-fact is heavier compare to factory plastic spoiler or actual carbon fibre.

Most people will do carbon fiber hoods and trunks for the largest weight reduction because the OEM hood and trunk is made of metal, not plastic. The spoilers are usually made from plastic to reduce costs. I've seen numerous Evo 9's with no spoilers at all.

It depends on the color of the car... if you have a black car or white car, then carbon fiber will look good. I prefer to have my entire car color matched.
