ALWAYS REMEMBER..... and NEVER FORGET.... anti-seaze is your friend.
Remember in automotive class (if you took it, I never did, learned my stuff in the shop), that instructors would tell you to put anti seaze on the threads of the lug nuts? Well, once again, basic mechanics kicked my a$s.
After I retourqed my lugs nuts last week after doing my front brakes, I forgot to put anti-seaze on my threads.
End result you ask?
I did my front struts today, and twisted off two wheel stud bolts, one on each side.
So now, eveything runs great, but I have to pull off the fronts, and replace the wheel stud bolts.
Yep. Once again, basic mechanics kicked my a$s.

That makes no sense. You broke off two wheels studs because you didn't use anti sieze when you last installed the wheel? You must be over torquing you lug nuts.

That's the only thing I can think of for a cause. I know for a fact that he lug nuts were not cross threaded, and they were torqued to 100 ft/lbs.
I have always put antiseaze on lug nuts before, and never had a problem with the nuts locking, or coming off.
Unless I am missing something even more basic.

I've never ever used anti sieze on lug nuts before, and never had to re torque my wheels. I don't know man.

Well I dont know about every where else but one of the things on the "safety" checklist in Pas' drivers manual (the one you read through when you get your drivers license) says you should check the torque on your wheels every time you put gas in the car. To me it is kind of excessive but I dont know maybe someone does it.

I just thought of this now so I am going to say it lol. My grandfather drives 2 hours one way to work once a week. Hes a building contractor so he drives a dually pick up. the one day while driving down the highway one of his rear wheels actually passed him.

Wayne, that is exactly what this thread is for, funny, stupid crazy things we have seen, done, or know somebody that has done one of those things!
That is priceless dude. When you are driving, and your wheel goes past you..... I would LOVE to have seen the look on his face!

Thats almost like this guy I knew once.....
He had a Neon, and tried to make this "ram-air" thng on his car.
Came out horrible. He cut this nasty hole in his hood, attached some kind of conical air flter, and then, get this, used a piece of PLASTIC washing machine hose to run from the filter to his intake.
Yeah. that didn't work very well. The thin plastic over heated, and flaked apart, and he sucked plastic into his engine. Funny as hell.
The guy was a true *****.

here's one for ya. driving my first car down the road.... 85 bonneville... god I loved that car. anyway stop at a stop sign and my whole front right side of my car crunches down and I see my tire keep rolling on straight through the intersection as Im sitting there!!! I never figured out why. I hadn't changed a tire in ages... I dunno im baffled. needless to say it was a free car (from my great gma who died, rest her soul.) the dam thing was spotless and for an 85 it had 70xxx miles on it! anyway just had to replace the disc and all that jazz the rest was fine. but god that was funny my best friend sitting in the pas. seat jumped out like lightning and ran down the road after it and I sat there astonished not able to move hahaha!

well heres one, though not as funny as Calin's.
Anyway, I was getting home from work and I was in a hurry to go over a friends house cause we had some stuff to do and I needed an oil change bad (I NEVER go over 3000 miles between oil changes) and I had to get it done for pride's sake, so I rolled the ccar onto ramps, jumped under it, and quickly started unscrewed the drain plug. Now, I knew it would be hot but I notmally and careful enough to not get much on me (Tho getting atleast some one you is obviosuly inevitable), However, when I unscrewed the drain plug, I got some one my hand and the shock fromt he burn caused me to jumped up smacking my head off the frame. needless to say I always make sure to let my car cool before I change the oil now. But yea, I arrived at my friends house with a giant knot on my forehead and a first degree burn on my hand >.> lol

 I do that every time a piece of dirt flys into my eye. You can tell whenever I've been under the car because my forehead looks like stonehenge
