So, i just got my car a new battery, and the engine was smoking... so i looked and there was NO OIL...

so we did an oil change... and we put in the wrong oil

10W 40, i think it was... and my car recommends 5W 30... kinda forgot.. but anyways

my question is

WILL IT AFFECT MY ENGINE?

no its actually better for your engine. 5w-30 is for new cars. the older the car gets the thicker the oil you wnat to put in. BUT you polly fried your rings running it with no oil. which is why the engine was smoking. If this is the case you will burn oil now. If it is just a DD and you dont plan on moding it ain any way then it is fine to run like this for a while. The life of your motor has been shortened a good few years tho, remember this.

NEVER EVER EVER, run your engine w/o oil. You prolly did fry your piston rings. Usually this means you need a rebuild.
