Hey everyone, I'm new here. I just recently got an 2001 GS and it came with a cold air intake and aftermarket exhaust. On the way home from picking it up, the service engine soon light came on. Long story short, i had a friend do the diagnostics and its running rich. I brought it into the dealer to fix it and repair a oil leak from the main rear seal. The dealer blamed the intake for the rich condition and put the OEM intake back on (which cost a pretty penny). I really want the intake. Is there anything i can do to be able to run it?

Disconnect the battery, remove the OEM intake and install the aftermarket intake and ensure you have the MAF connecting properly, reconnect the battery and start the car.

You're done.

Just curious - How much did you pay for them to re-install the OEM intake?? This I have got to hear...

Well i had to pay for the OEM intake, because it didnt come with the car. That alone was in the high 200s i think, maybe more. I think it was about 400 total. My bill is 2500, there ended up being more issues than first though.

And with what you told me to do, how would that change anything from what the previous owner did? It already had a new MAF which means this has been a problem before. But ill try it when i get the car back.

Because a new intake on an Eclipse is not a new venture.. it's only been done thousands of times - your vehicle is no different.

I'm not throwing a code - and I'm WAY past OEM:

cation some intakes come with colored oil return lines. these lines are usually made up of silicon and can cause silicon fumes to push through to your O2 sensor. it can easily ruin your O2 sensor. wich is why it will kick a code and turn on your check engine light!

for aftermarket oil return lines use rubber fuel line FTW.

It's a pipe with a filter - brand doesn't make a big difference. Just ensure it's connected properly, MAF is in the right place, etc.

Are oil return lines universal or specific for each car?

Is this a serious question??

Answer this for me - and the answer is the same for your question:
Are TIRES universal or specific to each car?

Take a photo of your engine bay and the intake and post it.

I don't know what you're deal is, if you get an intake that is specifically made for your car you shouldn't have this problem. I bought a K&N typhoon Short Ram Intake and I have never had any CEL's or problems with it. I'll post a picture of mine and show you how it should look and you can try and use that as a guide.

Well i see my post has been brought back up. I never did respond with what the dealer told me. It turns out my car was running really lean. The code said rich but whatever... The girl at the counter told me to leave the stock intake on for now on because aftermarket intakes will always make the car run like crap. I tryed explaining it to her that she was wrong but i gave up. So after all that, my car runs great but minus my aftermarket intake. Ill probably just buy another high quality one that has a paper filter instead of a metal one. Hopefully then everything will run ok.
