I have a Mitsubishi Space Wagon GDI 2.4L Auto, V registration / 2000. This car was imported from Singapore into the UK. I am now looking for a throttle valve sensor, which controls the idle speed. The reason I am looking for this part is that the car dies on me intermittently, particularly when starting from warm. I have been quoted by UK dealers a price exceeding £200.00. However, I think the part they are quoting me on is not the right one. I bleive that my vehicle's throtle sensor is a barrel shaped device with electrical contatcts at on end and a plundger at the other. The sensor is secured to the carburettor's body by a metal bracket using
2 x 12mm bolts. Can anybody help with

1. Is my diagnosis correct? Or could there be another factor which I am not aware of?

2. Where can I possibly find a replacement sensor, at a reasonable not a rip off price.

3. How can I prise the old sensor out of the carburettor's body. Do I just use brute force, or is there a special tool or a trick of the trade?

Help!!!!

Yours sincerely

That trick also worked with my 2 litre petrol engine. my problem was occasional fast idle at 2000 rpm.

HI
I have just bought a 2.4 gdi which has a missfire around 2000revs. Iam told by the local Mitsubishi dealer that the throttle bodies need cleaning. Has anyone else had this advise.

I had a misfire at 2000rpm and light throttle. After a LOT of research and chatting to a suspicious dealership.. they changed the injectors and the misfire went away. Apparently it's a common problem with GDi's. Car had done 60,000 miles. Hope this helps.

By the way, I now have other problems! Will it never end?

Reading between the lines for all the problems listed you may be seeing the results of poor injectors and plugs due to the fuel you are running. Start at the basics and pull your plugs to give you an induication of how well the combustion process is going. If they are black from carbon or worn replce them with platinium tip ones. Run some injector cleaner through the tank and use high octane (96+) fuel. Primium fuel also has lower sulfur contents which tends to build up in the cylinder. Throw away you paper air cleaner and put in a K & N cleanable filter. This will not only make it run better it will improve your economy and allow you to clean it at every oil change. If none of the above works then start looking at Oxy, Nox and throttle sensors.

Hope that this helps.

Hi thanks for the advice but I,m having problems trying to locate the K&N reusable filter model and the correct platinum or iridium plugs. Do you have the details for them as in the part or model numbers.

Cheers
