I've noticed that many aftermarket accessories have the wiring prewired in the car and only require 'plug & play' type installation. Eg: Basic radio/cd has prewiring for other OEM radios etc.

Does anyone know if there is wiring available for the footwell light? It's a very expensive accessory, but if there is wiring available, making your own custom light to fit could be pretty easy & cheap.

Anyone know?

I'm afraid not. The Scion tC has the option for the lighting, so all their cars come prewired for the option.

2008 Lancer Footwell lighting

The owner of the video claims it to be stock, but in reality, the dealership installed an aftermarket lighting kit.

I asked a guy about lighting for the interior....he suggested the I put the lisence plate light under the drivers & pass. seat (you know, the neon rectangular light) That way when you open the doors, it would light up the floors really well.

Still thinking about having that done...would look cool I think.

When I get a chance over the weekend I'll have a dig around in the footwell and see if I can find anything. If not, what I might do is pull 12v from the same circout as the interior courtesy light. That way, when the door is opened, the footwell lights would come on and when it gets closed, they'll go off, rather than being on all the time when the headlights are on.

Okay, so I didn't wait for the weekend.

Attached is pics of the footwell side cover on and when it's off....as you can see, there's LOADS of wiring behind that cover. I simply cannot believe that somewhere in that lot, the plug & play connection for the LED footwell/interior lights accessory is not lurking around....

only to try and find it now?!?!?!?!

+1 to impatience... I mean, +1 to getting things done NOW!

The thinner gauge wires used for control. The thicker gauge wires up top are also for control, but they usually have a 12v source you can tap into. Depending on when and how you want the lights to be triggered will determine which wire you tap into.

Are you looking for something similar to the video where the lights are operated from a switch or something that will turn on when you open doors and such?

Actually, if you tap into your license plate lights, they will only turn on if you have your city lights on. Plus, they will stay on until you turn off your city lights. If there was a way to tap into the map lights, then you could get the lights to turn on when you open the doors.

After reading this topic, I've come to realize that the interior lighting on this car sucks... sucks even more when you have the sun roof.

Here's a thought find some 12V lamps/LEDs and hook them up to the 12V Accesory plug you can parrallel a good deal of equipment to this. Also it would be rather easy to integrate a switch in series to turn them off and on. Just a thought because when you stat pulling extra current from other circuits you can cause considerable damage. This is a thought for newbies. If you know what your doing more power to yah. Thats the way i have mine done its as simple as poping some covers and crimping some wires. Really custome lighting is fun and simple if you take your time and do a little research.
