Hi, I plan on buying a 2009 Lancer ES in Michigan soon. The thing is I might be moving to California the year after, and I plan to drive the Lancer all the way down to CA.

I know that Lancers in CA have that weaker "PZEV" engine, and the Lancer I will buy in Michigan will have the normal 152-hp engine.

I am just wondering is that going to cause me any problems in California? Or is it perfectly fine to buy a non-PZEV Lancer and drive it to CA?

Thanks!

They're not weaker, they just have a stricter emissions. The PZEV Lancer has an additional catalytic converter to help reduce smog emissions. As for driving the car from Michigan to California, I'm afraid I can't help you on that one (although I don't see why you can't drive it there to begin with)

I agree. The extra cat robs HP and I don't think that the extra cat is the only thing different between the two. But don't quote me on that.
