Hi all,

We have a 1998 Galant SEI with a smidge over 200,000km on it. Recently had the cambelt and clutch replaced ($$!!) and now it's started making a loud knocking noise.

From my investigations, it seems the hydraulic lifters are stuffed. Because we are as broke as a broke thing at the moment, I'd like to have a go doing this myself. I am reasonably mechanically proficient.

Does anyone have a repair manual detailing how to do this?? Or has anyone done it and can write instructions for me to do it this weekend?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Yes, that would help.

The NZ engine code (I have no idea about any others) is 4G63. It's a 2000cc SOHC 16 valve.

Okies its not very complicated , mainly it requires removing the cam cover , the hydraulic lifters are located in the rocker arms, they have to be replaced as a unit. rocker arm with the lifter , there are 8 intake , and the exhaust are 4 double contacts (the exhaust rocker presses down both valves per cylinder) and the intake is individual per valve. Yull see once yu remove the cam cover. There is a test to check them , but if they have started to make noise its best to replace them all.

To remove them , after the cam cover is taken off there is 2 shafts that need to be unbolted , they hold the intake and exhaust set of rocker arms. Wish i currentlly had a pic but i do not. But its pretty self explanitory once the cam cover is removed
