The reason the FMIC gives you more power because there is more intercooler there. It is bigger.

All an intercooler is, is a radiator. If you can't find something called an Intercooler in your area, I am sure you can find a single piece radiator that you can probably use, especially if you don't plan of going too much boost.

Also, adding an intercooler doesn't increase horsepower. It allows you to run higher boost, in hopes of being cooled enough so as to not cause detonation in your engine.

But, if you absolutely don't want an intercooler, don't use one. Alot of cars used to come stock without intercoolers. But I have a feeling that once you get that small nudge from the boost kicking in (if you can even feel 5 psi), you will want to turn it up. Next thing you know, you're pushing 20 psi with no intercooler and you will wonder why your engine goes into a catatonic seizure, destroying itself with each rotation of the crankshaft.

The lesson here is: Use an intercooler, it will be helpful in the longrun!

it aboslutely does add horsepower. and it takes away from you boost. an intercooler drops the temp of your engine, allowing for more fuel and more HP. if you threw on an intercooler to a car without one, you'd loose some boost and gain HP by dropping the temperate of the air entering your engine.

+1 the intercooler itself DOES NOT add power. it adds cooling to the air your turbo is already producing and in turn allows your engine to be more efficient with it's fuel curves.

high intake temps are one of the biggest causes of detonation. detonation = pulled timing and richer mixtures.
