 a fuse is a safaty device to protect again wiring short circuit but also protect current overload. why the fuse can blow off, is because no resistant and cause current over flow. i think is likly, after adding the dot light it cause current draw over loaded. othewise the fuse will immdiate blow off if there is a wire short citcuit. the simplw way is 2 change a bigger fuse.
 total= DOT light watt / 14v = X amp, u needs 2 increase 4 your 15amp fuse. so maybe the next is 20 amp fuse.
 if after changing the bigger fuse yet blow off than is possible your wipper motor coil short circuit. that u got 2 change your wipper motor

Never hear b 4, when the wiring shorth circuit a fuse still can hole for 2sec after wipper started.
Any expert member can help to explain why.
Automotive wiring catch fire only when you don't add fuse in between 4 protection. To add a bigger rating fuse is not a "'DUMBEST INFO or STUPID IDEA"
If really your wiring short circuit, even you add the rating up to 30amp, the fuse were still can blow off.
Common knowladge: any power short circuit in your car wiring, the fuse blow off immediately you switch on the power. That is no such thing the wipper still can operate for about 2sec than the fuse blow off.
By adding a bigger rating fuse r just do a common testing on the power over loading. if after adding the bigger rating fuse n everthing is working properly, which mean in actul fact there is no short circuit.
Common knowladge: Too much sharing with 1 power sourch will causer overload.
The most common wire for car , can at least endure up to 30amp not melt. only 2 factor to cause the wire 4 melting.
1) No safety fuse is added, when short circuit, the wiring were melt cause by heat build up rapidly. (Catch Fire). 2) too low wire gauge but high current flow. under Long hours of overloaded will cause heat slowly build up during current flow, eventually, heat melt the wire. but that will take you sometime. (Correct wire gauge were not melt) Common happen in your HI-FI sets, when the wire is under gauge and yet you fit a high power capacity in before the safety fuse.

The problem is the gauge of wire used in that system. If the wiring is not rated at 30 amps, then putting a 30 amp fuse in can be dangerous and can cause the wires to melt before the fuse even pops.
Your best bet, to find out where the short in the system is, is to unplug one item at a time that is attached to that fuse. When the fuse stops popping, you have your source of the short. Find the shorted wire and repair. Since your mechanic recently did some wiring, just unplug what he had done and test. If you have no short, take it back to him to have him fix his mistake. A couple of new lights should not make a 15 amp fuse blow.

Sounds like he spliced in the daytime running lights to your hood light???
What he should have done was to put it on a seperate relay and made it's own fusible link off of the battery. I would have someone else wire up the lights if you aren't electrically savvy

QUOTE(2jz @ Jul 22 2008, 12:37 PM) k, i cut the wire that my mechanic spliced the DOT lights into, it the fuse blows up again... what does this mean ? did i short something, it's really strange ... the wiper works for 2 seconds again and dies ( when it blows up ) Ok, maybe you can try this method. 1) you disconnect the connector from the wiper motor. 2) than you link a wire to the wiper motor for the battery, but be sure in between you have put a safety fuse. than you test it, again if your fuse blow, than your can confirm your wiper motor interner coil short, otherwise were be the wire or speed controll units short. Question May i know how your DOT light work. when you ON the wiper? or when you ON your Head light? I have a bit confuse. assurme your DOT light are not work 2gether with yo wiper than i don't think your mechanic will link the wire to the wiper. By the way what is DOT light?

Ok, get a stick of chewing gum - the kind in the silver wrapper. Chew the gum, and wrap your blown fuse with the wrapper - silver side OUT. Force the wrapped fuse back in the slot and BAM (BOOM, FLASH, SPARK, etc.) you're done.
(just kidding - don't do that unless you like BBQ 3000GT)
