i want to make my shifter a lot shorter...im thinking about just cutting it down a lil bit......could i just cut it down and then get a different shift knob and slap it on. or is it more complicated than that?

i bought a short shifter off ebay for 30 bucks. it was by seller rokucreations. i sawed off the top part of the shaft at the base and then cut the stock shifter like an inch below the threads. had to drill a 5/8" hole in base of short shifter and inserted a 5/8" rod into and then jb welded that to the hollow stock shifter. so now i have short throw with short shift height and stock shift knob. works like a dream and makes that nasty tall shifter look clean

I cut mine ! its as simple as that. just cut out an inch or 2 out of the middle ,cuz your still going to need the treading then weld it back on.

Just know that cutting it doesn't reduce the throw distances, it will only look shorter.

Ha ha, no. Cutting the stock shifter is a backyard "hack" mod. It does nothing performance wise, it just looks shorter. Once you have more car modifications done than your tight body work, you can talk to me.

As Rob said, cutting it does nothing. The pivot point is the same. In order to make the throw shorter, you need to move the pivot point further up the bar I believe. All a shifter is, is a simple tool called a lever. Cutting the "work" side just makes you have to work harder to get the same results.

Why, because i'll tell you that hacking a stock shifter doesn't make it a short throw shifter? Please.

No it makes your shifter physically shorter. It doesn't give you a shorter throw. If you're not gonna do it right don't do it at all.

You are the defenition of n0ob. I guess we should all envy the crafty creator of a real short throw shifter and his plot to take everyones money when all they had to do was grab a saw and cut it themselves. Pshhh.

well guys...i just cut it down about an inch...and it feels a lot better to me..not because its a shorter throw, but just because its lower... and i plan on cutting it down another inch or so bacause its more comfortable to me when its lower.
