My 91 Pajero automatic 3-door Japan-import was unused for 7 months while I was away and so naturally the battery got discharged. It broke down while I was on the road, and had to jumpstart it rather haphazardly as there were no cables available, even with the good souls who helped by the roadside. Anyway, I suspect it got overcharged as the starter fuse was blown.

This is the problem. Since then it is stuck in 2nd gear, and a high rpm reading. Like when in park and I turn off the lights, the rpm goes up ever so slightly. I've already gotten an oil change, transmission fluid drained, timing belt changed. The shop suspects the entire tranny is a goner. But could it just be the transmission control fuse, because of the surge at the jumpstart?

Thanks everyone.

There is a fuse of the transmission control. I would go thru the whole underhood fuse box as well as the interior one and replace the blown fuses. But there is a fuse for the auto transmission . it will read "4AT" or very similar to that ( 4-AT , 4/AT or even TCM)

Thanks Kit, I'll try that. Hope it works, as I'm not liking the expense if the whole transmission's down.

Hope it works out , if the fuse is good , its a long shot the TCM may be bad frum the jump yu got. But it should burn the fuse before it does that. Good Luck
