So I recently bought a 4g63t for my 2g 95 eclipse, and the motor is all dropped in and everything. But it seems that the starter I have (from a american 4g63t) doesn't catch with the flywheel.

So I was told that I need to buy a JDM starter, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, and my local JDM store that sells JDM "doesn't carry it" and doesn't even know where I can get it.

Any idea's?

they dont know where you can get it cuz it doesnt exist. eclipse and jdm dont belong in the same sentence except to say that an eclipse is not a jdm

Okay, so why is it that when I turn the car on, the starter doesn't catch on to the flywheel?

dam, still no dice. To kind of elaborate, I bought the japanese version of the 4g63t. Some things are backwards compared to the american one so I had to do a few swaps with a blown american 4g63t to get some of the parts to connect up.

I've still been looking all over for the starter for this specific engine and no luck, so what I'm thinking of doing is maybe switching out the current flywheel and clutch for bigger ones so that it catches with the american 4g63t starter ( dunno if this will work but I'm running out of ideas).

the only way you could have gotten a jdm 4g63 is if it was from an evo... and that my friend is why the starter is not catching.

Guess I gotta look for the 4g63t starter from an evo. Do I need any info/year on the evo or anything to order it? or are they all the same?

What transmission did you use?

How about the stock starter?

5 speed manual. I tried the stock one from my American 4g63t that came off of a eclipse, but it doesn't work.

Well it seems that I have to get one for a Evo 2003 which is going to run me up for about $200+. Though, the starter looks very similar to the one I already tried using, so I'm already having my doubts.

The only other option I have is buying a bigger flywheel and I'm not even sure that'll work.

So why do you even post?

The Engine out of an Evo I-III are basically the same as the 4g63t out of an Eclipse. If you need a starter for that motor, and it did infact come out of an Evo I-III, then you answered your own question. Of course the motor could have came out of a jdm gvr4 too;)

Well hopefully it's for an Evo, because the starter is costing me way more then a starter for a 4g63 eclipse would.

I'll keep an update on how it goes.

No luck. I went to the JDM place where I originally bought my motor and explained the situation to them, and they gave me a starter that they "claimed would fit with my flywheel" and it turned out to be the very same 4g63t starter that I already had from the other eclipse.

I went to Advance Auto parts and they only have the Evo 2003 and up which matches the starter I already have. Apparently the one I'm looking for is an Evo I - III which is year 92-96 that I can't find anywhere. I've looked all over the net, ebay, all auto stores and junkyards.

Any other advice cause I'm completely stumped at this point and I don't want this car sitting in here for more then another week.
