Hi all, went for a drive today in my GTO and after sticking the boot in found that the throttle stuck at high speed and wouldn't back off. I had to go to neutral and turn the ignition off....anybody got any ideas as to what caused this? I still haven't solved the problem and can't drive it again til I do....it's stuck on full rev's!!!!

wrap hand around peddle.... Pull.



Now check the carpet it might just be getting stuck on that.

Next would be the cruise box. check to make sure the slides swing freely.

I 2nd checking the cruise control box. Open it up (2 10mm bolts) and lubricate the pullies inside.

Also, check to make sure there isn't too much slack in the throttle cable. If there is, and you release the gas pedal fully after being at WOT, it can cause the cable to come out of the channel it rests in at the throttle body and will cause the throttle plate to get jammed open enough to let the revs go through the roof.

I often don't know much about anything - lol... But:

When I was driving my dad's boat I had the same problem. It eventually died and wouldn't start, turned out to be the throttle cable.
The orginal problem(s) seem to be what you described.

Now... I honestly don't know what kind of throttle stuff a car as to do what it does (lol). So I don't know if it has a throttle cable, but if it does and if it doesn't take too much to check I would check that.

Wow, spoken like a true genius aye.

Just thought I would say my two cents lol.

same thing happened to me

sadly it was during a race!!(a legal race on a track) scared the pants off me,
put the clutch in and turned it off

turns out the cable had just jumped off the spring on the throttle body and got stuck on full open!!!

engine jumped up to redline and didnt sound too nice


just follow your accelerator cable in the engine bay and make sure its going where it should be

Well, for those interested it turned out to be the rubber seal between the "Y" pipe and the throttle body. The seal had split and one half of it got sucked in under the butterfly hence sticking the throttle on. I fixed it by installing a rubber sleeve over the "Y" pipe and over the throttle body. This hopefully should ensure nothing gets sucked in again. :banana:
