Good news: There's nothing wrong with your rig.

Bad news: That consumption is normal!

Compared with other SUV rigs, you are really doing fine!

Unfortunately these vehicles are heavy, and their drag coefficient compares to that of a city bus, therefore they tend to be thirsty.

Enjoy it anyway!

GDI motors are supposto get better economy (11.6l/100km) than the previous 3.5 litre models which ended in 1996. Try running premium fuel (96oct) for a couple of tanks. I have found with my 97 3.5 litre GDI it runs better, shifts better in the tranny and gets better ecomomy. I am only on my second tankfull but will report back on my findings.

I worked out that I'm getting on average 15.6l /100km and about 14.5l/100km when running 96oct. This is mostly around town and cartying kids back and forwards up and down hills with weekend sports on the open road. I thought that I would get better milage than this and plan to throw the motor on a diagnostics machine to see if it is tuned correctly when I get a chance. I will also, change the plugs and air filter before winter hits. One thing I am considering is to switch to a synthetic oil (ie Mobile 1) for better economy and performance. Any one else have and experience with this?

Jim

To reduse your fuel consumption, make sure you have a clean fuel injection system including air cleaner, tune up use paltiunum tipped spark plugs, good catalytic converter and oxygen sensor
