Haven't found anything specific regarding this issue, but I'm new here.

I've had an Outlander since Jan05 (new) and it has always worn the LH & RH front tyre outer edges. It also seems to pull left more than it should and I'm always compensating by steering right. The tyres are usually kept inflated as per the placard and there appears to be no abnormal movement (bushes etc).

The fronts were thrown at about 25000Km. The rears rotated to the front with the new ones put on the back. They're the factory Yoky's and we're just doing mostly city (Australian) driving with some occasional dirt road driving (No serious 4wd stuff).

My question: Is this normal for an Outy or can the tyre shop over compensate for this camber problem?

I have been told (and also read here in the forum) that this is normal for AWD vehicles. I find this hard to believe though. However if someone can set me straight that would be great as I'm abouth to fork out for four new tyres and would like them to last a bit longer.

Cheers

Well, if both of your tires are wearing on the outer edges of the tires that usually means that the tire pressure is wrong. For your problem that would mean that the tires are underinflated per your vehicle. The chart on the inside of the door usually only pertains to the factory tires on the vehicle. When you change out the factory tires the air pressure whould be about the same but many times you have to adjust.

Is is wearing the tires on only one edge or both??

Sorry, should have ben more specific. Tyres are wearing on outer edges (outboard) of both front tyres only. Not wearing on inner edges (inboard) or centre of tyres.
As mentioned tyres mostly inflated as per the placard, so I believe this points to a camber problem. If it was inflation I would get wear on inboard and outboard and not necessarily on both tyres. If it was a Toe-in/out problem I would be getting scrubbing and maybe shuddering in the steering.
Cheers

Ok, i did read your problem wrong, I would say that it is a camber problem. I personally have never heard of AWD vehicles wearing tires like this commonly. I would say to take it into a tire shop with an alignment machine and have them adjust it. Good Luck

I had some what the same problem at one point and my problem was inner tie-rods but mine was wearing inside thread and vehicle was wondering. I found 31 psi to be the best tire pressure for mine. If you do a lot of city driving and don't slow down enough at corners you will find that and all wheel drive does wear tires on the outside more. I now rotate at every 5000kms and I find that they all get ruined at the same time. Also if you go for a high threadwear number like the Michelin HydroEdge #830 you will find they last a lot longer than let's say a Falcon or Michelin Pilot with a #320 threadwear number. If you start to wear inside threads on rear tires look for upper control arm bushings and dogbone bushings.

Thanks for your help guys it's appreciated. It's booked for the new tyres today (not sure of exact specs) so I'll try to keep you informed. Will definitely be rotating more regularly and I'll keep an eye on the tie rods.
Can't see anything happening about the shop changing the camber as I've had it to Mitsubishi and to a tyre shop and get a similar response. We can only try.

Thanks again.
