Approximately 3 months from now my father and i have a race going, we got into the argument " power vs. weight " i bet that my eclipse (GS) could beat his mustang (V8) hes said hell no, now right now my clutch is bad but i just got my new clutch in the mail. now this argument has a long history of 6 years, or when i first saw a lit up import. i was all mustang head till i rode in my friends 92 gsx and i loved it. now the argument is this:

I argued that yes my engine is smaller but my weight is a hell of a lot lighter than his. so im figuring that right now ive got my exhaust and my cold air intake, my short throw shifter, and now my stage 3 clutch, not huge mods, ( im going one step at a time) im thinking 150 HP to the wheels against his:

289 V8 nothing special beyond his custom carburator. he also has some nice crager rims with some slicks.

Who do you guys think will win???? we are gonna video cam the passes and ill see how to post them on this website or ill give you guys the link.

You will be eaten up by the vaccumm cuased by his custom carb, fuel devouring big block, and spit out his muscle-y exhaust.

Your car weighs like 3200 lbs. 150 hp.

His car weighs no more than 3550 lbs, at 300 hp (at least).

He has about twice the power --> weight ratio/

thats a good point... now say i was to save up and throw a turbo on, would it be closer? or would i dust because i know he wouldn't beat me then. and you have to include the fact that this 66 is not in pristine condition, i mean the motor is but his rickety suspension will slow him a tad bit, do you guys think i need to lighten my car a little more or no?i know boost will help but if i was to save up to get a lit i would be trying to put it on the week of or something like that.

You would still lose. I have seen stock mustangs from the 60's and early 70's destroy 13 second eclipses.

You have to realize, if that car is in good condition, it will run about the stock time it did back then. The old mustang V8's ran just at 12.8 or so. If it was a 429 it would be at about 12 even.

Don't take this offensively! I drive a 1997 GS! (that makes my car probably in crappy shape compared to yours. Mine is slow as hell because of some unknown problem.)

The only possibility I could see of you winning is to (somehow) twin turbo that thing! Get a smaller one that spools up off the line, and then an EXTRA BIGASS TURBO for top end speed.

Oh, don't forget header, exhaust and short ram intake, you'll most likely need those with all that air flow!

Even though all that probably adds up to like $5000 lol...just felt obliged to put in my word.

If he's gonna add that stuff he is gonna need a hell of alot more than that to support it all. how about fuel flow? AWD? better suspension? the list is endless....

Simply put:

"Can I win this race?"

NO. lol

PS - He'd also need new piston heads, rods, ported cylinders...JUST to prevent detonation
