I am thinking of converting my automatic Colt to a 5-speed manual. Has anyone done anything similar here ? I know it will be a big project, and I am up for just about anything short of cutting sheet metal. So far I know it will need a different computer and different distributor than the auto's (in additon to the obvious drivetrain differences). Thankfully driveshafts are the same, I think. What else has to be done? Any input appreciated.

Many of us have done this , but , we would like to kno which model yu are referring to so anyone can give yu advice, how to . (year , engine etc , model.....)

if the car is your 1987 Colt E it would cost more to convert
than the current car is worth on market value

most economical way is to
purchase a 1987 Colt with the manual gearbox with all the bits you need

and strip it out --sell the bits you dont need as parts to recoup the costs

Yes is is the '87 noted on the left margin. It is in very nice shape, just got new cyl head and other parts, and I am building it to use, not to sell anyway, so unless it gets too involved as noted I still would like to do it. I know some out there have done this and am just looking for some guidance. Just hate automatics and want better mileage too. (Doubt the auto will last much longer anyway.)
