Went to Mitsubishi's website and looks like they added some new stuff for the 2009 Lancer. My favorite... the Touring Package. What's the Touring Package you ask? Well, let me elaborate! The Touring Package upgrades your stock halogens and headlamp housing to HIDs with the auto leveling projector housing (with auto on/off function). You also get Active Stability Control with Traction control and Rain sensing wipers! MSRP: $1,000 USD.

...

ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS! The headlamps alone cost nearly $700 A PIECE! And that's without the HID kit! So unfair...

Anyways... I called up the dealership I bought my car from (Napleton Mercury) and they told me that they didn't have much info on the package since it's really new, so I left my callback information with the rep so he could call back when he could get more info. I called up another dealership where I almost bought a car from (Grand Mitsubishi) and one of the guys there told me that the Touring Package is only available from the manufacturer. I would be able to buy all the parts from them and let them install it, but it's going to be a lot more than the $1000 price tag. Furthermore, the package isn't actually available at the dealerships now because it hasn't been released. The expected release date is September of 2008.

The guys at Grand suggested that I trade in my 2008 Lancer and get a brand new 2009 with the package. What did I tell him?

"Trade in my car? No way! The 2008 is the only model that will ever come out in Electric Blue Pearl. Plus it's a fully loaded GTS from the manufacturer! I'm driving one of the rarest cars in Chicago!"

Woooow soooo not cool... Dealers alllllways do that. Keep everything seperatley priced when the hot car first comes out. Then when they think its time to get another bum rush of moolah they'll unleash something new. BTW Nice to see a local! If you ever need any paint or body work (interior / exterior) Hit me up and I'll hook you up ha :D :bwekk:

I see that they did away with the ES sport version too and added that hot new color, rotor glow. I just did a build and price on the mitsu website and when you choose the touring package you also have to choose the sun and sound and the navigation package with it. You cant choose touring by itself. So the $1000 touring package ends up being 3 packages in one costing an extra $4550 dollars. Hmmm... awful pricey. Sure the stability control is nice and would be nice to have auto-on lights (i hate having to turn my lights on), but rain sensing wipers...umm, I can tell when its raining lol, not needed. Besides we have speed sensitive wipers now, thats fine with me. So idk, is all that worth $4550, when you could just get the sun and sound for 1750 and be set.

I was at a place yesterday in Aurora Il. & right next door was a Mitsu dealership. I was sooo tempted to just trade mine in for an 09....just to get a fresh car with no rock chips & the 2.4.
Glad I didn't! I would love to have that option pkg. So I guess I should wait.
Still p!$$es me off though.......That would have been $$$ WELL spent.

man I wish I could have gotten the touring, but then again I wish I could have afforded the GTS. Count your blessings it could be worse! You could all have ESs with nothing  I might have wanted traction when I lived in the north with all the snow and stuff, but I live in Texas no real need for traction control

The orange is so nice. My Grand Am was that color, and I LOVED it.
You can have the lights auto on. Just switch them to the on position and leave it there. It will sense when you need the interior on. Sure it dings when you take the key out but the lights turn off eventually.

Chicago FTW!

And I'll keep the offer in mind.

I'm still going to try again in September... maybe I can work out a deal with the dealership. My sister loves my car and she wants one for herself.

"Hey, I'll get you guys a guaranteed buyer if you can install the Touring package in my 2008!"

hey guys...long time lurker first time poster.
anyway so i too, noticed this addition of the Touring package...and i noticed that it can not be selected by itself. honestly all i want is the HIDs. i do not see why this particular option would be a factory only install. every car i have had has been used and with everything i ever did to them i was always afraid of an electrical fire. with the ES being my first new car i can say that i do not want to start messing with things like that. i bought my car from napleton mitsu and hope that HIDs become an option...hopefully soon...for all lancer models.

The HIDs are completely plug and play, so there's no worry for an electrical fire.

Welcome to the forums. Cheers to Chicago Lancers! You bought your Lancer from the same dealership I did

The Touring Package won't be available until September of this year... plus you can only add it when you are purchasing a brand new vehicle. Simply put, us current Lancer owners got done good... like with a huge screwdriver good.

This thread is full of loss :(

Care to explain the rain sensing wipers then? And HIDs? And stability control switch?

Just neede to bump this for newer people who are thinking about buying the Lancer in the near future.
This is Def. a worth while option package to get :)

"Uh....well dear....uh...funny thing happened on the way home....see___________

If I bought the same color...I could get away with it. She is rarely in my car.
I thought that she would be driving it more...but she's only had it 2x's & she had to keep calling me to ask how to work things LOL! So yeah...she would never know.

This is :offtopic: , but since you paint... is there an not-so expensive way to toughen up the paint?
