I would like to see another person with the painted fast key on the trunk. I did it when I was bored outa my mind & well.....having a bit too many brews in me....it turned out horrible! It's all covered in the Rally Red from the touch up pen...but it is in sad shape up close .... ....mental note...don't paint while semi drunk! HA!

Heh, i didnt use the touch up pen.. I kinda just layed some coats of black primer on the button. It looks like that rubber type stuff thats around the chrome ring itself. From a non tail gaiting distance it looks great, all black and clean except that chrome mitsu emblem.. Although i might want to put the Lancer OZ badge- "L A N C E R" Right under the emblem since our cars have a wide back.

I tend to keep other keys with my fastkey too, so I wouldn't want the paint getting scratched off.

Looks great though. Kudos!

Theres a detailed how-to somewhere in these forums, can't seem to find it. But in a nutshell

Step 1. Buy Black Primer , Gloss Enhancer Spray Paint, Chrome Lining
2. Take out the middle chrome part and paint it.
3. Lay out the lining, no measurement, just lay it out and cut.

In my DIY i have pics to show you what you can do. Chrome Lining is at Pep Boys for $18.00 and its in a package called Custom Chrome and you get a roll of 20' plenty of chrome. Basically clear the area on your bumper with a cloth towel and rubbing alcohol to get rid of dirt or anything to prevent sticking. Then take one end of the chrome lining and if you heat it up its easier to move around and when it cools will harden and stick really good. Ok.. back on subject take the one end peel away the red 3m adhesive cover and the start anywhere along the edge of the grill part. I choose on the right side half way because its out of the way and hard to see. Then i guided it with one hand and made sure the other was keeping the chrome lining straight and away from the bumper and just keep peeling and applying and make sure its straight thats why its heated up so you can lift up and straighten. Work your way around but the two bottom corners are tough, you have to bend the chrome into the inside of the turn and then back out onto the bottom of the grill area, explained in the DIY. Do for both sides and then back around the left side then top and back to the beginning. Then have the slack over the starting point, get scissors and then cut where you think will be flush with the starting point and then apply. Then periodically if you can check on your car and keep pushing the chrome back on to make sure it stays. Its been a week for me and i still make sure.

Thats alot to read but its good info. BTW dont wash your car for 3 days after applying (said so on the box) seeing as cup1chris washed his car (looks like in picture) it might of got loose somewhere, IDK but it can from the soap and water.

Hope this helps Click Me!!!

Looks good, but the image is topsy turvy!

Dupli-Color heat resistant paint is the way to go. There's no need to primer the surface, but it makes the job easier since you can see what areas have been painted on a lighter surface as opposed to a darker one.

Make sure you give the paint time to dry. I left it in my hot trunk for about an hour then put it in my engine bay. After driving for 20 minutes and letting it "bake" in my engine for another 2 hours, the paint dried up to a nice crust. It's not smooth since I didn't clear coat it, but it looks great!
