OK, so I've had a problem with my car since I bought it... It seems to hit fuel cut at max boost with the stock T-25. (It jerks a couple times at WOT around 3-4k and sometimes higher)

I have a GReddy type RS BOV on the car and a K&N filter. Not really any other performance mods. I was told to adjust my BOV spring and I did, and it helped a little, but not much.

So here's what it comes down to: I was reading that if you are running too lean, you can get a lumpy idle. I have always had a lumpy idle.

If the car is running too lean accross the board, that could possibly have an affect on the fuel cut symptoms, right? If that is the case, it could simply be that a previous owner could have put on a new MAF and the adjustment screw was a little off, so this whole problem that has been pestering me this entire time, could be solved by simply turning a screw?

AM I INSANE? :460:

side notes: I didn't even think of this until I read the RRE upgrade path that rob hinted at in another post. They were discussing removing the side honeycombs (no intentions of doing that) and they discussed the screw and lumpy idle. The reason I never really tried to fix it before was I don't usually beat up my car, and I am planning on a turbo upgrade in october and figured when i upgrade the fuel system, it would clear up.

Take a look at my thread... I'm going through a similar dilema. Maybe it will shed some light.

I have the K&N and similar BOV as you. The difference between us is I have a bigger turbo, but similar symptoms as you.

More to come on this thread, so stay tuned.

http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t37400-he...-plugs-lean.htm

It could be something else as well, and I'll let the pros take over from there. I know this is not a "you are definitely running lean" telltale sign, but I'd pull the plugs to see if they are white.

Plugs still look good, They don't have any more than 30K on them, and the wires are about 2 years old and they are 8mm NGK wires. There was another set of wires on the car when I bought it and they were doing the same thing.

Ok, well, just for giggles, let's pretend that it's not the plugs or wires or coil, and it is indeed a fuel problem. What could it be? and please don't say the fuel filter.

Thank you for humoring me EMC.

So there is pretty much no way it could be fuel cut then? or running lean?

What if I am not getting a good seal on my tubo gasket? like the exhaust mani-to-head gasket? or exhaust mani-to-turbo gasket?

No. But your car being a DSM would explain the bumpy idle :P Prolly a hacked MAS. How much are you boosting. Cuz if its not over 15 you are not fuel cutting.

Get a boost gauge. If you haven't touched it and you know its factory its prolly 9 psi. if someone removed the restrictor selenoid its prolly around 14 or 15 psi with possible boost spikes of 16. I still highly highly highly doubt you're hitting fuel cut.

boost leak will cause lumpy idle and break up in rpm during heavy throttle. check your pipes for splits/cracks/leaks

NGK wires are junk, plugs are great. magnecor wires are expensive but will last a life time

Alright, I give in. I'll order a set of Magnacore wires and NGK plugs soon and I'm not too worried about if it's a boost leak right now because in the next month or so I'm getting complete hard piping for all of that, and one of the large side mount intercoolers. I'm sure that will solve the problem, if that is what is causeing it.

And just to be sure, magnacores are just a good quality regular-type wire, right? They aren't like the nology wires that are something else and die out relatively quick, right?

magnecors can even be moved from vehicle to vehicle without too much worry of damaging them. IMO they are the best and last wires you will have to buy. kinda like the K&N of plug wires.

EMC, I'll check, but I'm not too worried about it for the reasons stated in my last post. I'm lazy, and like I said, it only happens at WOT around 3-4K, and I rarely ever do that so it really doesn't affect me. But I will give it the once over this weekend when I hack off the internal bov dump tube. i figure if I'm going to check it all, I might as well do something productive while I'm in there.

pwee, I will def buy a set. i found a couple sets for around $80 each, and I sent them an email and if I order that, the plugs, the turbo to exhaust mani gasket, and the exhaust mani gasket, they will knock off like $40 on the order, so good deals... good times...
