I checked my Fuel Injection Control Relay today and based on the Haynes manual, I'm going to have to replace it. The sensor that I'm talking about is the one that sits just beside the ECU, on the passenger side.

I have also heard on several posts that there is a Fuel Pump Relay on these cars that can be problematic, but after reading many of these posts, searching the web, and thoroughly checking my Haynes manual, I still haven't found the Fuel Pump Relays location. In fact it is not even in the index of the Haynes manual...

Is the Fuel Injection Control Relay (next to the ECU) the same thing as the Fuel Pump Relay? If not, can someone please let me know where to find it on a 1994 Eagle Talon TSI AWD? Thanks!

The one you are talking about is next to the ecu under the panel by where the passenger's feet go right? It's 2 relays in one, it is the fuel pump relay and fuel injection control relay. it does a couple other things too.

If it's what I think it is, it's kinda big (as far as relays go) and gold in color, it also has a number on it that starts with M in black ink on the front. Don't try to order one with that number though because that's the manufacterer number, not the part number. A new one will run you like $60 from a dealer.

It's the same relay all the way up to 96, in 97 they changed it to 2 separate relays that are like $20 each instead of basically two relays in one box for $60. I'm just letting you know that incase you find one in a junkyard that has less than 100K miles on it, the relay is still probably good.

Yeah, that's the one. I've been looking up the part online and have decided that checking out the junkyards for one is probably the best idea.

I'm sure that this is probably the thing that has been giving me trouble starting in the past couple weeks. I checked the ECU and everything looks great (thats good, I had to replace one on my other car.) The timing is good, the fuel pump is good, the pressure at the fuel rail is good, the plugs look good, the battery charge and terminals are good... but that relay isn't looking so good with the multi-meter. I'm not getting voltage across terminal 4 and 5. Not really sure what those control...

Thanks for the info, though!

No problem. Mine went out and I wasn't getting any spark. If you don't get spark, the ecu on the 2g can tell, and doesn't pump fuel, changed it, fired right up.

Appearently they tend to go out around 100K. Obviously, take your multi-meter and test it before you buy it if you find one in the junkyard.

Well I've got about 150,000 miles now with the stock relay, so I guess I'm doing well.

Yeah, I made it to 105 on mine. Some relays are just better than others. At least they are a relatively inexpensive item and easy to change.

HMAT... You said that they used the single relay up until 1997? Is the relay on mine compatible with those up to 1996? Is it a different part number for the turbo models? Just wondering. I'll start looking for it in the next couple days. I'm stuck reworking the interior this weekend.

I believe it is the same for any eclipse with the 4g63 engine up until and including 96. so that would be all of the 1st gens, with the execption of the 1.8's and the 2G GST's and GSX's.

You can call a dealer and ask them the part numbers to make sure. There is probably a much better chance that you will find a 1g in a junkyard before you find a 2g gst or gsx in a junkyard though.
