It has been running great up until now. About a month ago we noticed a weird dash light. It kind of looks like a radiator and is orange. It doesn't stay on all the time. I've checked the coolant on several different occasions thinking that is what the light meant, but have not noticed any loss of coolant. Then earlier this week as I was turning into my driveway, it just stalled and I have not been able to restart it. A friend said to check the battery, its fine. Could it have something to do with the weird light? What should I try next? Thanks in advance.

That light is Mitsu's idea of radiator and it lights up when your overlow canister is empty.

What is your current collant level, both in the radiator and in the canister?

Have you fixed this problem? Our 95 Expo exhibits the same thing. Our problem is intermittent, but when it rears it's ugly head the idle is erratic causing the engine to die when you come to a stop. There is much more to our story leading up to this. I will not detail everything here, but I'll just say that $4k later and trips to both an independent repair shop and a Mit dealer there has been no resolution.

Marc,

Those must be diesel specific lights. We have nothing like that (lights or diesel engines ;) ) in US.

Rollme, you might want to post a bit more details, you might be surprised ;).

Also, where in US are you?

Los Angeles

After I wrote my original post, another problem has cropped up. This one is not engine related. The electric door locks are acting up. When you try to unlock the doors the locks go right back to the locked position. Any suggestions?

AFA the original problem is concerned here is the story. I had a number of items fixed, trans, brakes, timing belt, etc. and everything was ok, until one day the car would not start. Took it back to the independent repair shop and they determined the dist. was bad. A rebuilt dist. was installed, but then we got the "check engine" light. Back to the shop and the code comes back as the cam position sensor. That sensor is in the dist., so a second dist. is installed. Same thing. A third dist. (our original rebuilt) is installed. No change. Shop owner says it's got to be the ECU.

So I had the ECU rebuilt. No change. Next up, take it to the dealer. One week with them and they come up with nothing. In fact the car does not exhibit the problems that made us send it in. Those symptoms were, high idle speed (1900 rpm) at start up, fluctuating RPM after warm up, and the engine dying when coming to a stop. In the week that we've had it back, only the engine dying problem persists, and it happens only right after starting out in the morning, as if it clears itself the more the car is driven. The dealer told me that along with the cam sensor code, two other codes also were flagged. I don't have them in front of me, but the service grunt did mention that one had to do with some part of the idle system. He also used the term "recreate" referring to them not being able to recreate the symptoms consistently.

I have the EvoScan software and cable, but have yet to get it up and running on a system to plug it in and check it out. Yesterday, I reseated some of the fusable links and fuses, and checked and cleaned a couple of connectors.

Well, if it would help you. I have a '95 ECU and distributor, both of which came out of perfectly working (but rusted out) car. You can have ether one for $50 ($100 for both).

If you were local you could drive-up to my place and try them out first, but this would be a very long drive ;).

grndsm, that might be a possibility however, can you send me the #'s off of these? My Expo is a Cali model, and from what I hear, read, know, they are different from the "federal emissions" models.

That is a good point! In DSMs '94 was the year that they gotten away from Federal model and all cars were considered "CA emissions". I have no-idea if they did the same thing for Summits/LRVs. Since they switched to OBD2 in '95 (a year before they were required), I tend to beleive that there weren't more than one version of OBD2 cars. And my '95 was definitely an OBD2 model.

But I will look up the numbers tonight.

The part number on my '95 ECU is MD302440.

I do not know about downloading the manual, but I have a two volumes of '95 FSM that I can throw in for extra $15 ;). I already had the '93 FSM when I got my '95 car with its own manual.
