Hey got the same van :)
ripped my timeing belt bout 4 weeks ago.....
...got a rebuilt engine from Implace auto or somethin like that...
u should be able to pick one up for 700-1500 dependes how much they done got mine 4 $700 with all new pistons, valves etc. ...... u can also put a 4G63 engine out of an evo in it that should fit ur gearbox....

to change it over:
-take driver seat out (should also remove driver door easier 2 get engine in/out)
-under driverseat remove metal cover (parkbreak and fuelrelease connected so disconnect them)
-get underneath and remove 3 skrews 2 get exhaust off
- 6-7 big bolts around gearbox and 2 small 10mm at bottom for metal cover
- take out radiator and unskrew airfan(more room)
-disconnect all cables, fuel lines airfilter, heater hoses( make sure u take photos and write down where what cable was!!!)
-get an engine lift, small tractor... secure the engine 2 lift so it doesn't fall out when removing engine mounts....
-tape up door so u dont scratch the **** out of it...
- remove engine mounts both sides and lift engine bout 4cm and then pull forwards so it comes of gearbox
- then just carefully lift it out, don't try doing it by urself

-then just repeat putting it back in be carefull connecting it back to the gearbox(its a ****)

good luck u'll need it.....

thats funny I had one of those vans and was very close to doing the 4g63T coversion until I found out that the automatic trans bolt pattern is what they call a wide block instead of a narrow block 4g design, all awd fwd 4g63t are all narrow block, what I did find is the starion G54B block fits dead on. actually the more i think about it I think our mazda b2600 and dodge d50 pickup trucks might have had the wide block 4g motor that you guys are look for
