Hi, When driving below 30 mph my car will down shift hard. When I stop the transmission feels like it enguages and slams forward like I have been rear ended. Seems like the fluid pump is loosing pressure then enguages and the clutch pack grabs into drive. Phoenix Retrans did a rebuild and then messed around evaluating until the car until it was out of warrenty. Now I am just trying to find the knowledge base to get it fixed because they don't have the skills set. Can anybody here help or have had a similar issue. Thanks
Paul

Well do yu have an MIL? Check engine light? There can be 2 things causing this. One which would most likely set of an MIL. Would be the input shaft speed sensor . This would cause teh transmission to shift and downshift sporatically and with very high pressure .

Also ive seen alot , is improper rebuilds on these F4A21/22 and up transmissions. Not properly reseating teh selas or putting new drum and clutch piston seals. Causing pressure loss , which over time would make the friction discs wear out abnormally over a not long period of time. So when the lower gears engage , the piston that engages each gear has to travel farther than its spossed to to engage the gear making it shift really hard into each gear.

Also putting the improper number of steel discs per friction , per gear can also cause them to wear out quickly . there are a number of things . if there is not a MIL set by teh tranny or is one , its most likely going to be due to a poor rebuild job.

Kit TeunG,
Not sure what MIL is. No check engine light. No fluctuation in speedometor or tachometor. I will check with Phoenix Retrans to see if they replaced the drum and clutch piston seals. May not be the best rebuild shop in the area. I will let you know. Thanks for the info. Paul

I hope all goes well. Yu just tell them that yu have had the car looked at by a reputable shop while on business..etc And they say its internal in the transmission. The bad thing about alot of transmission shops is that instead of they rebuild the whole thing, they replace just wut "looks bad". And the customer always have to pay up the road for sumthing they should have replaced failing up the road. But to them its a gamble. They figure they have made enough monies so its worth the gamble and hopefully everythin will be okies , or atleast til out of warranty then its no worries. These transmissions as yurs is the F4A51 , and all the F4A and series are very particular transmissions, they when have an rebuild issue need to be fully rebuilt and the tramnsmission pump and seals especially changes , cause they will be prone to failure and pressure loss if not. I kno all to well about it. Hope it gets sorted.

The answer from Phoenix Retrans is they have no idea what was done as far as the rebuild. They blamed it on their closed shop in Scottsdale. The unit was removed and sent to the main rebuild shop in Phoenix and shop manage said they do not have records for what is done. They put in the basic kit and do a visual insection. No hard parts are replaced. He said he would look up the invoice to see if it had any info. I am not holding out hope. They just look like another crappy transmission shop doing poor workmanship with non-existant record keeping. I would not recommend them to anybody. Thanks for your info.

Well i really hope that sum sort of silver lining comes out of this whole situation. Yeah it is really sad that there are companies that do such work and never can back it.

Gone back and forth with the pukes from Phoenix Retrans (AKA pukes from Phoenix Hard Parts) without satisfaction. They won't do anything and they think I should be glad that it lasted 11,000 miles as Mitsubishis are not very good automobiles. Truth is, none of the people at that shop are worth a s%*t. I would not pay them to fix anything again. Don't take your cars there to be fixed as the people lack ethics and integrity and all you will end up with is lsee money and a broken transmission.
