Hi all,

So here's my first post. My car started leaking oil alot this morning. The leak was drivers side up near the headlight. I took the car into a repair shop and they want $655 for the Oil cooler (the mechanic said that the oil cooler for the turbo needed replaced) + $200 labor.

Am I getting fleeced? The only oil coolers I see online are Transmission and engine. What oil cooler is he talking about, and why is it soo expensive.

Thanks
Bernoullie

the oil cooler is installed in the area you talk about, drivers side behide the intercooler, if you remove the forward wheel arch plastic closure panel, just in front of the drivers wheel its just behide that, it may only be the oil cooler pipes that degraded and leaking and not the cooler it self, so if you can, check it yourself for peace of mind and to establish what exactly needs to be replaced

Thanks. Does the price seem reasonable?

It probably just needs the lines replaced. They usually rust out and spring a leak. Each line you can get from a discount mitsu dealer for about $75 each... there are 2 lines. I would say 2-3 hours labor to swap out the lines so you should be looking at around $400 total. If the factory oil cooler is indeed bad, I would consider getting an aftermarket upgraded unit and have it fitted with SS lines. You can usually get something like that for $350-400.

Just shop at summit :)

You will also need a pair of m16 x 1.25 to -8AN adapters, a pair of 1.2 inch NPT to -8AN adapters, 4 90 degree -8AN swivels, and about 6 ft of -8AN line.

LOL, true. A stock oil cooler is far more expensive though. The stock cooler runs about 300-400 bux. Aftermarket is the way to go in the case of breaking one... or get a good used unit.
