So, I bought my lovely Lancer a nice colormatched Shark Fin from Visual Garage and I was soooooooo happy to install it. It looks grrrrrreat!

...

Except for the part where it rained last night and the fin SHIFTED! I had it perfectly straight and everything, but now the fin is all lopsided. This sucks...

Anybody know what I can do to remove the fin and reinstall it? That sucker is on pretty good and I know the 3M adhesive will lose some strength if I take it off. Making sure it is straight is really hard on this car because I'm 5'5" and the car is almost as tall as me :(

Halp halp!

Yes... yes it was.

...

Nah, just teasing! Good things come in small packages! ANYWAYS... a ladder really wouldnt help much since I still have to bend over to reach to the antenna. I stood in the door to reach in that far. My problem isnt mounting it... it's taking it off and reinstalling it.

You might be able to buy some more adhesive at walmart or target. I would check first. Then you could use some goobgone or something. While your at the store you might wanna get some more good luck. I think you need it! **** that sucks though.
on the bright side, my husband is shorter than you, so you aren't alone in your shortness!

I'll have to remember the rain when I get mine on.

It stinks, but I can live with it for now. I just hope Visual Garage can respond to me soon enough so I can fix it before the weekend is over.

Did you hear back from them? Mine isn't sticking in the front.... My protective paper was falling off of the gasket when i took it out of the package..... But it was still really sticky and it didn't have anyting on it...... So i figured instead of waiting another week it would be fine......Followed the instructions perfectly........ :right:

Yay, Arthur from Visual Garage replied. He said that he could send out another adhesive gasket if I wanted. Asked me to take some pictures of how it shifted after installation.

Hey Greyso, did you have problems installing over the stupid huge Sirius antenna? I wanted to align the back of the fin to the back of the antenna, but the VG directions state that the fin shouldn't touch any part of the stock antenna. Stinks because it would have made the installation 432094273042304 times easier.

But i wish i could have of aligned it with the back of the antenna like you said.... Oh well... I still havn't heard back from him yet on if they are going to do anything for me.....

See that's the thing... I don't know why the fin can't touch the antenna. It's plastic, it won't interfere with signal strength and it's not like you are mashing it against the stock antenna.

I hope I don't get charged for it though... he mentioned something about the Sirius-integrated antenna, but I'm fairly certain KaranB also has the GTS too and his fit just fine.

If the replacement gasket doesn't work right, you can buy some goo-gone, when you remove the shark fin, and you can get some 3M emblem tape from and auto parts store.

Well, I figured out WHY the fin doesn't sit right on the GTS antenna. It's because the stock antenna pushes against the wire from the shark fin that attaches to the stock antenna. That's why it gets crooked.

If the shark fin was higher, or if I could increase the clearance from the top of the car, problem would be solved.

I got the old antenna off and cleaned pretty easily (I used Goo-Gone too lol), but I'll look into the whole 3M emblem tape as a solution. Thanks awg0020.

What if you used a thicker 3M type to raise it slightly higher than the previous tape?

Bought the only thing that I can think of.....unless they send you out 2 of the gaskets...IDK.....

Thicker tape means more cushion that moves. It's holding pretty well right now, so I'm ok with it.

I still might look into the whole 3M tape thing... the reception is getting pretty bad in some areas and I can't remember if I secured the screw in completely... YARGH!

Seems like they've been doing that a lot recently. They said that they listed the GTS Lancer as incompatible on their website, but I didn't see that when I ordered mine.

Hmmm thats disappointing to see a lot of guys are having issues but unfortunately a flaw is a flaw. Right now my sharkfin is about 90% planted to the roof. Its just the last 10% on the back, that has lifted off by around 1mm. Its not noticable from a distance, but it is when you're standing right next to the car and staring at it...

I'm ok with that, just as long as the rest of it remains stuck!
