Hey guys,
I own a pajero/montero 1996 model 3.5l V6 fully loaded SUV.It uses the 6G74 DOHC engine. I changed the timing belt and tensioner, as well as worked on the hydraulic lifters recently. Now that the engine was closed up and running againwhen I revv the engine I am hearing a grating sound coming from the engine body. The mechanic said that I have a bearing knock. I didn't have it before I took it to the garage and the jeep was not driven after, it was just left idling for a while and was revved a couple of times to allow the noise of the lifters to dissipate. The mechanic said it ws the low grade oil that created the bearing knock as the viscosity was not the same as the fully synthetic oil used prior to the servicing of the vehicle. I used a 10w-30 grade Rallye Turbo oil after servicing. Before it was the fully synthetic 10w-30 ( Quaker State) brand that was used.
I now have to locate a crankshaft, main bearings and cornrod bearings for the jeep to be running properly again, and they are difficult to locate in this part of the woods.
Can anyone out there explain this to me so that I can understand. Three other mechanics have told me it couldn't be the oil to cause this.
