Before i had my head shaved when i blew the head gasket, my performance on my car was so-so. And when i blew my head gasket , to say the least i was a little depressed. But, there was a golden ticket in there. When i took my head to get inspected and made sure it wasn't warped they shaved .08 of an inch off. Not because it was warped but because my father asked them too. I asked him why and hes said back in the 60's and 70's they would take brand new cars heads to engine shops and get this done because it adds HP and a certain amount of torque to your engine. It will very slightly change your compression ratio also. Now that my car has that done i could feel a difference throughout the power band. Its a lot quicker on acceleration and it feel like i can get to 100 mph faster. Then i added a air intake that my aunt fabricated for me. and my lil eclipse is a whole lot quicker than it was. So just a heads up, it will cost about $150.00 to get your head cleaned and inspected to make sure nothing needs replaced, and to get it surfaced and shaved. Thats sort of an inexpensive mod for you guys out there that dont have that turbo yet.

for non turbo cars who never wish to put a turbo on, yes. for turbo engines...no

unless you plan on building for track passes, instead of daily/recreational driving

in your case, referring to your other topic about the head gasket, it would be ok to have the head "decked" or "shaved flat." The machinist will shave the head to a certain spec and if it still isn't flat they normally tell you and ask if you want them to continue. At this point they are supposed to inform you that the compression may change and there may be issues with that.

They don't remove near as much material as morphene's dad had them take off. They should be able to get it flat within .030"

right but Im still all in for the turbo install and dont want to mess too much with changing stuff. Im just all over craigslist, ebay, locals, yards, mitsubishi forums, ect ect for just another engine. Im going to try to just drop in a turbo motor, or just find a rebuilt or really good head. I just dotn want to get into the LABOR cost of valves and decking, ect. The valves are dime a dozon, but the labor is crazy. My 95 tsi I bent the valves and replaced them for $90 parts, but in teh end I paid $707.25 out the door. I will never do that agan and that was just a valve job.

why not go for a stroker kit...bring down your compression and at the same time add 15 - 30 hp plus free up about 30 more lbs. of torque. it will lower your compression and allow you to get a bigger turbo setup ...all with the same engine. because your changing almost everything internally in the engine you should be able to go buy all the manuals, a cherry picker and have fun doing it yourself. even though it was a lil hard and i learned alot about my engine, changing the head gasket myself was fun.

actually I found a complete turbo head with intake mani, with TB and evo exhaust mani, 450 injectors, GM MAF with piggy back on it, all turbo parts minus turbo for $280 shipped. The guy is also throwing in like a J-pipe and all kinds off goodies in the deal also. I was just lucky enough to find someone who lives in a apartment and is moving and needs to get rid of everythng and needs money. So whatever fits in the BOX besides what I am getting, he will throw in there free of charge.

Decking the head brings the danger of valve heads bumping into the pistons and so special pistons may be needed to clear the valve heads.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
