I would like to add a little horsepower to my 08 GTS with being less than obvious about it due to wife reasons. Any suggestions? I know K&N has a nice filter. but has it released yet?

Ask SixFeetDeep... that's his goal in life! I say you shouldn't be concerned about your wife. It's your car! MAN UP!

...

OK, now that I've returned to reality... K&N does make a drop in filter for our cars now. You can snag one from their site K&N Filters, but I think that there might be some sites that can give you a discount than what K&N sells theirs for. I'd also snag one of RRM's V2 lightweight pulleys, it helps the car pick up quicker.

It's hard to mod this car without making it louder. If you could get her to let you get K&N's SRI when it comes out, you'd be golden.

My seat covers add 30 HP, it would be more but I am not fond of polyester.

freakingwilly, I will look in to the pulley and K&N filter. I don't want to put too much $$ into the car because disposable income is limited, and she will want to drive it more often.. I can't have that.

Get a cooler wife..... j/k.
As for the K&N, if you look in the newspaper sometimes they have coupons for the filters at autozone. Mine carries them.

Besides the never buy another filter perk, what are other benefits of fitting the K&N filter to our Lancers?

Tell her you have an exhaust leak due to a rock hitting the muffler and warranty won't fix it, then go have a custom exhaust made, or get a bolt on from GReddy or who ever else is making them now.

You could always work my Batmobile angle, I said "well the car is a little slow in stock form so I need to add these parts just incase I have to save you or something." My wife then proceeded to hand me the credit card and say "Do what you want."

You could get a free flowing air filter, exhaust and pulleys, but all in all, it wont make your car any more noticeably faster.

I will however make it sound heaps better, through both ends.

You wouldn't feel the 4kw difference, and people that do are kidding themselves.

Do it though, because it will make the car so much more fun to drive.

The problem with using the coupon....they have to have the filter in stock in order to use it.

The wife is cool, that's the problem she will want to drive it more often... I don't ride shotgun.
When we met she had a Supra, I had a 300ZX and a heavier foot.

A pulley sounds nice, but I was on the K&N site and cannot find a cold air intake yet. I might be interested in free flow exhaust as long as it doesn't make the car obvious.

K&N only has the drop-in filter as of now, they are still working on the SRI (or what we hope they are doing). They have been slacking imho.

K&N doesn't have any intake kits as of yet, only drop in filters (we're going for the not so obvious look, remember?).

If you are trying to hide it from her soundwise, you COULD try Injen's CAI. It only really roars when you punch it. Otherwise, it stays pretty quiet and gives a nice MPG boost (I got about an extra 2 MPG).

OR you could remove the stock duct that guides air into the air box. It gives you a slight RAM effect, but the sound of a SRI (more sound than performance). If she asks what's with the noise, just show her that all you did was remove the duct. Then when it grows on her, you can get a whole new intake... and by then, K&N's should be out

I like the cut of your jib.... I playfully ran the idea of free flow exhaust past her today and her conception is that more power means less mileage. My idea is we get there faster the less time the engine is running.

... I have a jib?!?

Actually, with a free flowing exhaust you are helping the breathe a lot easier and make it work less to get the exhaust out. Less work = Lower fuel consumption.

Replacing the header will improve performance and you'll only get a slight (and I mean SLIGHT) increase in sound. Wait for RRM's V2 if you consider it. Crypto from SpeedCorps mentioned a FED (non-Cali) headerback exhaust that's coming out, but there are no specifics out yet.
