first post here..welcome all. anyways looking at a 06 gt this weekend with 36000 miles on it. should i assume that all of these cars have premature clutch failure and need to be upgraded to a better system? i`m a senior auto tech at a used car dealer so i`m use to misery but do all of these clutches blow up? anyways, anything else to scope out twice thats specific to this model before coughing up 15100$ for this machine? your advice appreciated.

i have about 45,000 miles on my '06, and have no issues with my clutch.... i think most of the people who are having problems may be burning them up, or otherwise abusing them.

I "abused" mine. It didn't blow up but by the time I replaced it it was slipping really badly. If you buy it when you do replace it though you will probably want to upgrade to a better setup. Preferably one with a flywheel that can be resurfaced. $850 for a new one from the dealer every time you need to redo the clutch will get expensive. I put an aluminum one in mine with a replaceable friction surface that I picked up for $370.

maybe i read too much into the ""research"" i did. i came across numerous incidents where it was something of the nature "" i bought my 06 new and it blew 1000 miles after...now at 20000 i need a new clutch. or i`m 65 years old been drivin a stick for 62 and at 30000 miles i`m on my second clutch. anyways i hope i dont have to order the aluminum plate and "normal" disk set up right away. thanks for the input.
