hi guys.. So, i did a head gasket and belt change on my 1986 L200 which went smoothly enough.
Anywho

after a bit of issues getting it started again, i reset everything to TDC on #1, but it was on exhaust stroke, not compression stroke.. (amateur mistake, i know.. i've copped a bit from my mates for that) Once i got that sorted and fixed i took it for a test run.

it was all good for the first half hour or so. but when i started the ute again and was on my way back home i lost all power and it felt like it was dieseling... I pulled over, popped the bonnet and my extractors were glowing red hot.. I know this can happen on turbo manifolds, but being a 4g63 SOHC non turbo i did not expect to see this happen..

Now it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders so i thought i might have burnt a couple of exhaust valves or something, but i've done a compression test and the compression is about 145 on all cylinders...

This is where i need help..
I don't know where to go from here. i've tried going forward & backward a tooth on the distributor but to no avail..

Has this happened to anyone before?? if so i'd love some input or advice..

cheers

IS yur catalytic converter or part of the exhaust clogged/plugged. If itis clogged and highly restricting the exhaust flow it will cause the issues yu are having.
