hi guys.. So, i did a head gasket and belt change on my 1986 L200 which went smoothly enough. Anywho
after a bit of issues getting it started again, i reset everything to TDC on #1, but it was on exhaust stroke, not compression stroke.. (amateur mistake, i know.. i've copped a bit from my mates for that) Once i got that sorted and fixed i took it for a test run.
it was all good for the first half hour or so. but when i started the ute again and was on my way back home i lost all power and it felt like it was dieseling... I pulled over, popped the bonnet and my extractors were glowing red hot.. I know this can happen on turbo manifolds, but being a 4g63 SOHC non turbo i did not expect to see this happen..
Now it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders so i thought i might have burnt a couple of exhaust valves or something, but i've done a compression test and the compression is about 145 on all cylinders...
This is where i need help.. I don't know where to go from here. i've tried going forward & backward a tooth on the distributor but to no avail..
Has this happened to anyone before?? if so i'd love some input or advice..
cheers
