I hope someone can help out with this problem. My 1998 Mits Chariot Super Exceed has recently started displaying the orange engine warning light. On starting up the car frequently cuts out. Eventually I get going but it will not idle until the car is moving for a reasonable distance. The car has no effective power when accelerating and generally just limps its way through the gears (automatic). I am in south africa and local dealers seem to be a bit perplexed with the problem as they have never seen this model before.

Would anyone know if this is a computer based issue from my description? I have had the car for two years and prior to this it has been no trouble at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

sounds like its in limp mode which means there is either a fault with the engine or the ecu. listen for any tapping knocking or any other noises that might help diagnose the problem.

Thank you wolfendrac, there are no noises. I managed to get the car to a mitsubishi dealer. They hooked me up to their tester. The problem is not mechanical but computer related. Unfortunately they are not trained in this model as it is not released in this country and could not resolve my problem. They could not manage to clear the fault code permanently and do not know if they are applying the correct settings or if there is a real problem. The car ran well for 30 minutes after I left but I have got my orange light back and am again being overtaken by pedestrians! This only happened after I got the option on my display to select 2 or 4 wheel drive (I have a 2 wheel drive) so the car seemed happy not knowing which I was using.

Do you or anyone else perhaps know if there is a online guide to the computer settings for this model that I/they can refer to for help?

Many thanks
