Hi all I've read a few posts that sound similar to my issue but all seem slightly different - hopefully someone here can help to save me a few quid in repairs.

What happens in my case is I could be driving along and out of the blue the engine management warning light (the amber one with a picture of an engine on it) will illuminate followed by a sudden drop in engine power. (If i take out of gear the idling seems really rough)

What I have been doing up to now is just switching the engine off and back on while driving in an effort to reset the fault. This usually works but lately the issue reoccurs shortly after this reset and may continue for another 5 - 6 times before finally giving me a break. This may happen at motorway speeds or while driving through town.

After reading a post about the throttle body i cleaned it out as recommended it was pretty dirty. This did not solve the problem.

I recently brought the car to a mitsubishi dealer to have the fault codes read (stupidly as i have just bought a fault code reader on ebay for 1/10 the cost of the dealer reading it....) and a number of problems were found.

The technician said teh pump was noisy and running at a low pressure and that this wud need to be repaired before carrying out further diagnostics and work (I think this can be attributed to me running the tank dry the other day and sucking up some crap into the filters which i must check out. Anyway i dont believe this to be the root cause as the pump has always been a little noisy and as its a pricey part (€500) i think the garage is looking to make a few quid.

The other faults that showed up are the ones I was expecting. There was a Air flow sensor fault, An oxygen sensor fault, a throttle position fault and an ignition fault on cylinder one. The ignition fault i wasnt expecting nor the MAFS and TPS. I was hoping for just the one fault the O2 sensor.

With all these faults I'm not sure where to proceed or which one might be the root cause which is hopefully contributing to the other faults. Any help on where to start or how to eliminate these in the most cost effective wy would be greatly appreciated !!

(Just as a note when i cleaned the throttle i marked the position of the TPS then removed it, how precise does this need to be compared to original factory settings? as I may not have put it back exactly the same but fairly close. this cud be causing the TPS fault code)

Sorry for the long post everyone hopefully this is a good brainteaser for someone :)

Hi, i have a 2000 1.8l and believe i had the same problem. were you able to get any answers?

i was in the mountains going up the hill, the engine lightcame on, the car just lost power and shut down. i then turned it off then on like you and it ran fine for another about 2km, then the it did it again. but funny enough afterwards i still drove about 300km to get home, and it did nothing. Still a few weeks later and it seems to run fine.
