My original plan was to build a car pc and drop it in there. But i'd like to keep the functionality of the steering wheel controls. That would require some kinda custom made controller/serial connects i assume. A bit over my head.

You could always check out E-Bay. I have seen a few stock Nav units on there. Some going for around $500 & up. Worth a shot for ya.
