QUOTE(SixFeetDeep @ Aug 1 2008, 01:52 AM) This is the time where manybrews is needed. I guess if anyone would know of this issue...or the remedy...he would. I guess the only real way to fix this is for the manual guys to get the CVT :bwekk:
Eww! CTV? :P I emailed Works info email and am currently waiting for a response. I described the issue to them and asked about the performance of the short shifter in this case. Now I wait...

Well, there's differences in feeling and "personalities" between transmissions, but when I'm shifting from first into second, and I have to forceably pull it like I'm pulling a rusted flange bolt, that I think is a different coloured horse. To note, I've only ground twice in three months: Once when the reverse gear lied to me about being engaged, and once when I clutched out too soon with fourth -- but neither since I got the new car.
A few days ago, I was starting off from a stop sign a block away from my house heading home after about a half hours drive, when I shifted around 2200rpm into second, I thought I had actually broken something. The feeling I got from the stick gave me the impression the fork broke.
I limped it the next hundred feet or so slowly, pulled up in front of the house, and did a couple of shifts between first, second, and reverse. I inched it in both directions a bit. Those gears were fine.. though they felt "loose". Next problem: I could not fully engage into fifth anymore. I went sequentially and randomly between 1st through 4th and reverse, and they were all fine but fifth still wouldn't engage. I inched forward and back a bit again, still nothing. A bit later, fifth was suddenly ok again. Some wierd issue with the synchro on a seldomly used gear.
Now, as I said, this is the second Lancer 5 speed transmission I've used that has "quirks" -- the random "popping" feeling as I come out of first, the random "interference" feeling as I shift into second. I've driven other cars with low mileage and high mileage and they do feel different. However, they never gave the impression that they were created with low tolerances in their machining. I'm trying to chalk it up to shift ferocity, engine rpm, or how quickly a shift occurs after depressing the clutch pedal -- but it's not consistent at all. It's just totally random the best I can tell.
Of course, now I have another concern about the clutch pedal and either it's hydraulic piston or how well the pedal itself was actually bolted to the interior, which my last Lancer didn't have, but I'll save that for another day. Oh, and some creaking noise coming out of the engine bay when the clutch is engaging onto the flywheel, which the last Lancer also had.

QUOTE(rox @ Jul 31 2008, 11:51 AM) How would this problem affect putting in a short throw shifter? Could that possibly create more issues or make the shifting worse?
I have the same problem, and after I installed a TWM shifter and bushings, it happens about the same amount.

Hm so I guess it shouldn't really be that big of a concern then.
