My 1995 3000 GT has what I believe is an ODB II diagnostic port under the driver side dash. It’s where the port is on every other car… I hooked up my ODB II reader, and the reader powers up. When I hit “read”, the reader shows a progress indicator for a while (normal), but eventually reports back “no link”.

I use the reader on my other cars, and have no problem. Instead of “no link”, it should come back with “0 codes” or a list of codes. I do get the “no link” message on other cars if the engine is not running (normal), but my engine is running on the 3000GT.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Googling this I found someone with a complete different car had a similar problem, and someone commented that the connector may not be an ODB II port. I find that hard to believe. Don’t all 1996 and newer cars have to have the port in the US? Although, this is a 1995.

Its got a hybid obd1/2 in there. I believe a OBD1 Scanner will work

I have a 96 GT the computer was bad from the factory. The car ran fine but it would not pass inspection due to it not being able to connect to the other computers properly. I found out there was an open recall on my car for this even though it was over ten years old at the time and I am 2nd owner. I had it replaced at the dealer for free. Many of these cars had this problem around these years. Check into this.

The 94's and 95's use an OBD1 protocol. If you have a check engine light, there is a simple way of reading it. You need a piece of wire about 2 ft long. Stick one end in the OBD2 port terminal that is closest to the engine bay and the center console and ground the other end to a bolt. Turn the key to the on position and the check engine light will flash the fault code with long blinks being the 10's digit and short blinks being the 1's digit. So, 4 long blinks and 3 short blinks would be 43.

This only works on 94-95 models.

The 94/95 hybrids use a modified OBDI protocall with a OBDII port.

None of the OBDI or OBDII scanners will work with them.


You have to find a scanner that is made to talk to them.

Luckily my state doesn't require emissions testing for anything older that 1996. however, I'm still going to check with my mitsu dealer to see if the recal (listed above) is valid. If my check engine light comes on, I'd like to know why without learning morse code (flashing).
