i know the reason has to be because the brakes are to far from the rotors or is it?

thats not the deal at all. mine didnt hold either when i first bought the car. it does now. just go out to the car and remove the center console. find where the ebrake line is located and there should be a screw that you can adjust. it tightens and loosens the brake line. if it is to loose as mine was then it will not ingauge the brakes fully. mess with it til you get it nice and tight. then put it back together. to simple. no tools needed. well unless yours is rusted and need pliers to turn but mine turned very easy. hope i helped.

the e-brake has nothing to do with the pads you can see. the Ebrake pads are actually shoes inside the rotor like a drum brake.

when I got my car the ebrake barely held. I took the center consel out and noticed they had rigged the cabel with some plumbing pieces (connections like those on a fridge with water line). I went to the wrecking yard and found the right pieces, hooked it up right and like Silver98 said you can adjust the nut to tighten the cabel. Very easy to do

E-brake is short for Emergency brake. It is so called because during the advent of hydraulic brakes, there were times when the lines would pop or something would leak, and the driver felt they were "out of control". The E-brake was a mechanical braking system that allowed the driver to still stop the vehicle when the hydraulic brakes failed. Even though today's brake systems are far more advanced, it gives an added level of safety to the driver.

Also, when adjusting the E-brake via the nut under the center console, refer to your repair manual as to how much lee-way should be allowed. Something along the lines of 6-8 clicks should lock up the rear wheels.

Hmmm, I just tightened mine up so that was virtually no play in the cable. Maybe I should check into that. The ebrake works good but i pull it up farther than 6 or 8 clicks.

Also, I think the 6-8 clicks is on new brake shoes, so that as those wear down, you can kind of gauge how much is left with how far you have to pull the E-brake...

Had the same problem with mine. My shoes were still good, but the drivers side cable was seized, and the hardware inside the rotor was rusted together and wouldn't release or engage freely.

I had the same problem (and posted in the Diamante forum) after changing my rear rotors. THe E-brake shoes are inside the rear rotors that double as drums.

I just pulled the rotors on another Mitsubishi, and it has the same setup. That car's parking brake was working fine before I pulled the rotors, and I made note that the wheels don't spin that freely even with all the brakes off.

My problem on the diamante was that the e-brake didn't really work after the brake job and there was squeeking / sqeeling at slow speeds.

I haven't tried tightening the brakes on the Diamante and I haven't put the new rotors on the 3000 GT.
