94 expo, 2.4l problem with water pump pulley wobble with noise. I cannot find any leaks. Pulley bolt tight against pump face. So, do I need a water pump? timing belt replaced 20,000 miles ago do I need another? and finally do I have to pull the motor to replace the water pump or can it be done in place?

Sounds like the WP is gone. But I am surprised that it isn't leaking. A big enough shaft play that you can see, is usuallyl more than enough to create a leak!

WP can be changed on the car. It isn't a pleasant job, but people do it all the time. WP should be changed every other timing belt. So, you should change it at 120k and 240k. I wouldn't change a belt with only 20k miles, but that is me :).

While you are there, check the condition of the main pulley (aka hormonic balancer), they tend to separate on older cars.

thanks for the help lost the lower pulley last year, and yes they sure do seperate. I asked about the change out out of ignorance. they had to turn and lift the motor to do the timing belt. I thought that this might have to happen with changing of the wp.
question. It is close but I can remove the face bolts on the pulley, and after that then the wp bolts and then reverse the process? I'm I correct or is there more to do and do I need a manual?
