My buddy with a Mazda 3 performed the "advanced timing mod" on his car. He said it took about ten minutes and makes the power band kick in at around 2500 rpm and you gain 5 hp and 7 ft lbs of tq with dynos to prove it from other guy on Mazda forum who did it. Has anyone heard of this? And is it possible to do with our cars?

Yeah, I have heard of this mod and I did it on my Mazda 3 when I had it. It did make a noticeable difference.

However, I don't know if it can be done on the 2008 Lancer. Now I will have to do some research to find out if it is possible.

Basically, you moved the Ignition Advance sensor in order to advance the ignition timing on the car. The sensor on the Mazda 3 is mounted next to the Crankshaft pulley.

Not sure if the Lancer has one or not, but I believe the Ignition Advance on our cars is controlled by the ECU, so I don't think this mod will work on the '08 Lancer.
