Hello everyone. I'm new here. I was a member of diamanteowners.com but they seem to be going under so I had to look elsewhere. I was surfing around and found this site and boy am I glad there are other dedicated groups out here.

I have a 2002 Diamante LS. I have had the car for a couple of years and put about 60K miles on it with no leaks. Well yesterday my wife was gone in it and I noticed a couple of spots on the drive where she parks. To make this quick, I checked and it is definately leaking...I just don't know what. It seems to be coming from the driver side front....about 6-8 inches in towards the engine behind the driver front wheel. I looked all over with a flashlight but couldn't tell where it is coming from. I checked all the fluids and the only one that was a little low was the power steering. This is not the first time I have had to add PS fluid but I have never seen it leaking. Whatever this is is leaking pretty good.

I am somewhat mechanically challenged so any thoughts on what it could be in this area? Do the PS lines run over there?

Thanks a lot.

what colour is the fluid leak

is the engine a 4 cyl or a V6

power steering runs below the firewall
to the rack and forward to the pump

red -auto transmission and power steering
green -coolant
brown- manual gearbox
black -engine oil
dark green /brown - brake fluid
clear water - airconditioning

thanks

I couldn't really detect any color to it. It really does look like engine oil but the engine oil is completely full. The only thing that was low was the PS fluid. The brake fluid appears to be about halfway between the min and max line. It is the 3.5L V6. There is some sort of rod that runs from the transaxle area out to the back of the wheel. It has an accordian type boot on the end coming from the transaxle. A tie rod maybe? It looks like the fluid has been leaking onto this boot. I looked and felt all around above it but couldn't locate anything wet.

Thanks again.

Well wut yuve descibed is the Constant Velocity Joint (CV shaft) , it all depends. It can be coming frum the transmission output shaft seal. Just as well as the power steerings rack and pinion . Have yu checked the transmission fluid level?

These style SOCH 24V heads arent known for leaking cam cover gaskets as the older SOCH 12V engines. These do not have a semi circular plug at the bac of the head like the older SOCH 12V heads either.

Altho frum time to time the oil filler cap should be replaced periodecaly ,or the rubber sealing gaset on it replaced. But just buying the complete oil filler cap is easier. The rubber on the filler cap dries out and hardens over time and can have a little oil seepage frum there.

I would get the car to your mechanic
to confirm where the leak is

loss of fluid in steering or transmission can't be overlooked
