I bought my car about 3 months ago. A couple weeks ago I noticed that the tires were wearing down pretty quick. Today when my car hit 10,000km I had another look and my front tires are pretty much completely bald.

Now i'm wondering is this normal for the Dunlop tires? I mean I don't drive my car hard and I can't really understand why this happened. I went into the dealership and they quoted me $393 plus 13 percent tax and plus 80 dollar an hour install plus tax which is 13 percent per tire!!!!!!

So if anyone can help me or suggest anything to me that would be really helpful cause clearly my dealership doesn't really care as long as they make a buck.

Ouch!!
Thats alot of dough!! I'd go with a different brand definitely to begin with.
I've had my vehicle since last mid-nov w/ dunlops on it.
I now have 20k miles on it and they are holding up pretty well.
Well, not really cuz I dont like the hydroplaning effects and such, but they still have plenty of tread to spare.
You may have defective tires, the good news is... the warranty on the tires may cover that.
If you bought it new, there should be a tire warranty pamplet in the ziplock w/ your manuals.
Have you looked into that? If not, I seriously suggest it.

Yeah I was already looking and no luck in my booklets. Either way im pretty pissed cause i def do not have that money right now and my tires are clearly ready to blow.

I went to the dealership and I have the road hazard warranty cause our roads are desperately bad with potholes and the such. The guy said verbat ( " those tires are soft compound, the roads here are def not helping that fact cause your gonna put more spin on them, but we dont replace wear") which makes no sense to me if the roads are possibly causing it?

Any suggestions for tires peoples?

Thanks! I did send dunlop an email earlier... I'll call in the am! 400 + dollars for a single mid range dunlop tire is crazy markup when they are on the dunlop site for 180 something.

1. Never go to the dealership for tires, they are "ALWAYS" (notice the quotes) out of stock on the tire you want, the "only have the most expensive" model of your tire. Then dealer shop rates.. you best drop your shorts and grab your ankles.

Dunlop makes a decent tire.. the higher end models. The factory will put the lower end models on the car for cost reduction, but I agree 10K is a little sketchy, but the problem you might be called on is driving habits... as for me I have 16K on my car and still have rubber nubs on them.

I looked at Firestones website and 215/45 18 run about $220.00 each

Here is a good link for the TireRack

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SelectTireSi...autoModClar=GTS

I like BF, and Yokohama.. good grip, Goodyear are over rated and Pirelli are nice but designed for cars that are frequently over 100 MPH and do not drive in snow or rain.

End result is you are not going to get a replacement warranty any time soon. Just don't get boned on new tread.

Dunlop should do something for you. Especially if you tell them that your going to replace the tires with Dunlops again....maybe they will give you some sort of a price break. When I had my Chevy TrailBlazer...the stock BFG tires around the 30,ooo mark....started developing bad rot around the edge of the tire....I showed the guys at Discount Tire & they said that I qualified for some kind of defect in them.....I ended up getting around $169 off a set of new GoodYear Fortera Triple Treads....was like getting 1 tire for free.

Tka eyour car into one of the other shops around there. Your tires are wearing out too quickly...that's for sure. But then again....road conditions.....driving habits, braking, handling...all of course play a factor. The low treadwear rating (360?) on the sidewall is pretty common, but still not the greatest, resulting in a lower life expectancy with them. That's the problem with the tires thatthey put on the GTS's....they are classified as "ultra High Perf. All Season Tires....sometimes I wish they would just have put the 17'ers on there....way more choice & way longer tire life with the extra choices out there.

I had issues with my Dunlops & the dealership swapped them out for Pirelli P-Zero Nero's. I think that they ride better....only a little quieter than the Dunlops, weather wise, they have been fine...though I haven't tested them in the winter yet.
Treadwear rating is 400...better than the Dunlops, but not great...BUT I dont think that they handle as well as the Dunlops. They just aren't as responsive to drivers input. Not saying that they suck, just not as responsive.

The P-Zero's go for $136 on Tire Rack website

The only other choice that I see on there with a 400 rating is:

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS for $146

Everything else has a lower to much lower treadwear #. Typically the higher the treadwear #, the longer the tire "should" last, but with the ultra high perf. tires...you don't get any kind of a mileage warranty.

Here is what I did to help myself out of a bad situation when it comes to tires. I don't know if you have a Discount Tire in your area, but here....About 5000 miles after I had the Pirelli's put on, I went to my local Discount Tire guy & told him I wanted a lifetime rotate & balance with lifetime flat repair & the raodhazzard warranty. Hey their 45 series sidewalls....anything bad can happen. Out the door it cost me like $103...maybe a little more...can't quite remember right now.
Still way cheaper than having to buy a new tire & I can get them balanced or rotated any time that I want & if I ever get a flat, then it's repaired for free.
If they can't fix the tire, then I get a new tire. Of course they will try to sell you the warranty all over again for that new tire if that happens...but it's all up to you.
Tires aren't cheap. But if you have to buy some new ones....try finding a place like I suggested...they usually have some sort of a deal going on....like free financing for 6 months to a year & maybe something else.......Last time I bought tires for my wife...the guy messed up. He gave me the $100 rebate & a years worth of interest free financing. It was supposed to be one or the other....so maybe you'll get lucky too.
Hope all goes well for you....sux that the dealership is giving you the run around.

Well I went to a custom car place today and the guys wife suggested Falken ZE912's or maxxis MA-Z4S Victra.

Both of those are 225/40/18 which will fit on the stock lancer rims?

As for the dunlop situation im having my father call them and not me when he gets home from work

Only problem with the 40 series is how low they are. Hit 1 bad pothole & those tires could be toast.
I just wish that our cars had 50 series sidewalls. It would ride even better & there are so many more choices to choose from.
Going with a taller sidewall might take away from the handling a little bit....but I would do it IMO.

Having someone "older" like a dad call them up might help the situation. Couldn't hurt.

Do you have the CVT or the manual trans?

They might ask......
