I have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse, automatic rs, 1.6L

A few weeks ago it would start slipping out of gear when i would be driving (almost throwing me thru the windshield!) and it wont shift, so i have to pull over and turn it off then turn it back on and it usually works okay for a few minutes then i have to do it all over again.

i went to AAMCO and they told me i need a new 'solenoid pack' i have no clue what this is, the error code was '41- low reverse solenoid circuit error'. the guy also pointed to the part (the only part attached to the trans on the outside of it)

i asked a few people and they said that this 'solenoid pack' sounds like a general word the guy gave me to throw me off so i couldnt go and get it fixed anywhere else, these people also said it sounds like the transmission control module. does this sound correct??

and also, i was researching the TCM, and i few people have said its located behind the dash.. the guy pointed to the part and it was really close to the front of the car..

please help!!! thank youu!!!

Actually, you have a 2.0 engine. There is 16 valves, if you are refering to the "16" on the valve cover.

If your mechanic told you that you had a 1.6, my advice is don't go to him.

My thoughts too. I have a 1996 RS and it's a 2.0. I think the smallest engine in any Eclipse was the 1.8 found in the 1st Gen...

As far as the transmission goes, my Nissan truck was doing that, popping out of gears whenever it wanted. We just got a whole new trans though... so I can't really help you there...

those guys are right, unless there was some sort of wierd engine swap, there is no such thing as a 1.6L in an RS of any year

the TCM or TCU is behind the dash on the passenger side. If the code said it was a solenoid problem that is located on your trans, where the guy pointed. replace that and see if it helps

it is a group, not an individual. they are inside on the valve body. unless you have knowledge of how to rebuild automatic transaxles you might have to let a shop tackle this one.

he may have been pointing to the harness connector on the front of the trans by the dipstick tube. That one you can check yourself. check the 8mm bolt on the top of it to make sure it's on there tight.

how is the fluid level? if it's low that can cause issues also

it is infront of the trans, kindof on top of it sort of, with the oil lines right above it.. the fluid level is fine..

so its called the harness connector?? its EXACTLY where you said but the guy called it a ''solenoid pack''..

the plug is the connector. I don't have a diagram so there may be elextrical solenoids in there. But usually the solenoids that people talk about in auto transmissions are on the valve body inside the trans
