this lancer 08 have incredilbly loud engine noise compare to toyota corolla, nissan sunny and honda civic.

not sure why this is happening. Is it because of the engine design as this is a MIVEC.

Also the gas pedal seems soft and you need to step the pedal all the way down for the engine to accelerate and also make a loud noise. Making the rpm meter to go all the way up.

Could i bring it to the dealer and readjust the pedal and make it hard so it will be a bit more sensitive when pressing on the pedal.

BTW, i am using a 5-30 m-oil fully synthetic 76 conocophillips. Anyone knows what the best m-oil around for my mit lancer 08 i can used. Might be thiniking of using mobil-1 or idemitsu or even shell. Any recommendations?

Ah yes...the joys of having little sound insulation....always fun huh...HUH?! :P

If you have the CVT...then yes...the engine can & will sound kinda loud at times. Just the nature of the beast. You can always Dynamat (sound proofing) the car.....it would help lower the overall sounds you hear.

The dealership will tell you that the sounds you hear are normal 7 that they cannot do anything about it.

Just a suggestion. Check your airfilter box and make sure that it is closed properly.
Well especially if you were playing with it or had service done on the vehicle (once the service department here didn't close up the box as it should be).

You will notice a significantly louder sound when the filter isn't put in right, and also suck up a bunch of crap into the engine overtime.

Other than that, yeah, they are kinda loud.

The MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system) has no effect in low RPMs because the MIVEC doesn't kick in until around 3250 RPM. The car is loud, I will give it that, but that's mostly to blame because of poor sound proofing. I also support rox's claim on the airbox. I once checked my air filter to see how dirty it got and I didn't close the airbox properly, leaving a 2mm gap in the top of the box and my car became significantly louder. Checked the box, closed up the box again, and the extra sound went away... although it was nice having it.

It will be anywhere from very difficult to impossible to adjust the gas pedal because our cars utilize a digital throttle, best known as "drive by wire." CVT transmissions are naturally slower than their automatic counterparts, but they get better gas mileage and they have no "shift shock."

As for the oil, you can use 5w-30, but the added thickness isn't really necessary because the engine is brand new. Thicker oils are better suited for cars that have tendancies to burn oil (which I know your car does not). Use what's recommended by the manufacturer... 5w-20 mineral oil. Synthetic isn't necessary because it's only real advantage is in temperature endurance. Synthetic can handle super high and super low heat ranges better than mineral oil, but our Lancers will never reach those kinds of temperatures and even if it did, it would only be for a short period of time like arctic winters. Unfortunately, once you go synthetic, you cannot return to mineral oil... so you're stuck with it.

I'd tell you to ask manybrews for more info, but I think he's discussed that topic far too many times... even for a Mitsu tech.

freakingwilly,

can you elaborate more on why i cannot change to mineral oil from synthetic oil. i think i did that before with other cars but not brand new one.

what is the advantages between mineral and synthetic and which gives more power? thanks

may i also ask where i can find the information from the manufacturers about the recommendation use of m-oil?

I haven't heard the two side by side, but from the reviews I read they mentioned that the engine noise in the 08 (2.0L) can be excessive, but in the 09 (2.4L) the sound is much quieter. In my 09 manual, I don't notice excessive engine noise at all compared to other cars that I have driven.
Car noises?.....just turn the stereo up. :)

To be totally honest, I never really understood why. I just heard that from other people and took it to heart since everybody seemed to know what they were talking about. Fortunately, I have the power of Google at my side!

Turns out, the old early synthetics that first came out caused seals to swell up and tighten. When you added mineral oil to an engine with swollen seals, the mineral oil would relax the seals and the car would leak oil. Newer synthetics do not swell up your seals, so you can easily switch back and forth between the two and have no problems. A lot of the synthetics on the market now containt a good amount of mineral oil.

All the manufacturer recommended equipment, settings, and information can all be found in your car manual.
