Well, the Fed-Ex man brought me a present today from WORKS. My performance package consisting of the EXHALE AB & the Drop In Filter.

I don't care for the overly large canisters that are on the other exhausts systems for our car, so I thought I would give this a try.
The drop in filter....I didn't want to get that wooshing sound when I would mash the gas with an open air element...well I wouldn't mind it...the wife would beech!

The ENTIRE process of installing the filter which I kept doing wrong.....I didn't latch the bottom part of the airbox resulting in a loose fit. After 12 minutes roughly of jerkin around wih it...I got it done.

Next came the removal of the stock muffler. I sprayed all the spots with WD-40 & set off to ditch the stock muff. I did that with ease & had the works installed really quick. Now mind you....I am not a mechanic. I am pretty smart when it comes to figuring things out & this was really easy. I had the air filter on, the stock muffler off & the new EXHALE AB on....everything done in 50 minutes.

All was going great until I started it up.................

It grumbled at start up.....COOL!
It had a mean tone to it at idle...but not loud! ALRIGHT!
Revvin it .......UHG! WTF?! It sounded like every other fart can muffler out there!!
I immediately called up Willy & told him the news that I hated the thing. I had it on for 5 minutes & it is really too loud for my taste. Even driving the way that I do....granny style....it's the loudest in that range! If you get it over 3250rpm...it quiets down to where it's nice...but at that speed, I'd be doing close to 100mph!
Going 60 on a quick trip showed that it is relatively quiet......I can live with it...but upon starting up at a light....the car is too loud.
WORST PART......while talking to Willy, I could see a couple of dudes in a Mustang catching up to me.....as soon as they were in back of me & in the other lane....the passenger is pointing at my car & they are both laughing!!!!
All I could do is hang my head......now I know that this EXHALE is a muffler delete.
I'm aware of that. I was also aware that my good sense would tell me that it would be louder. I've watched all the videos....it didn't sound too bad. But IDK.
I plan on taking it off tonight while everyones asleep.

My 5 minutes of fame....down in flames. Crash & burn...right Mav?

I'm going to disable the replies for this thread (FOR NOW) because I plan on adding the step by step how to part. I had taken..pretty much a step by step with my camera. Problem is...I forgot to set the resolution to a lower setting. It's currently set at 10MP..oooops!

I'll see what happens with it. Bill at WORKS told me that they could probably take it back which would be fine with me. I'll let him keep my money until they come out with the newer version with a muffler...shouldn't be too much longer...a few months maybe?

I can wait. By that time I should have the funds to either get the Performance Suspension Pkg....or the Tune.....I know....I know...get the tune so I can tell everyone about it...

1 thing that I have to admit...I love the way it looks. The tip size is roughly 3 1/2" X 4 so it looks great. NO burning issues with this one....it's not close enough to melt anything.

More to come soon.......when I have more time......

I'll try again tomorrow.

Alright...I'm opening this up....I can't post pics on here....I guess the files are too large so I am going to have to post them on photo bucket or something with my step by step.

Overall.....I really loved the size tip on the works EXHALE. The fit was spot on perfect....It did however come with small blemishes (light scratches) on the tip. Most if not all were covered up by being under the bumper....but still.....

I had the WORKS off & the old stock muffler back on..all within 15 minutes. It's THAT easy people....so don't be scared about putting on an exhaust. A few shots of WD-40 & everything was as easy as can be.

I'll see what I end up doing...but for now...my 5 minutes with it are done & over with. It's sittin in my trunk for now until I hear back from Bill @ works.

All in all...I really wanted to like it...but it...just too loud (for me at least) around town.

The filter on the other hand.....I think that it made a little difference. A little better pick up....but after my tip this weekend....I'll be able to really tell if it helps in the MPG area.

Alrighty then........let the comments begin.

Yeah, it stinks because all the videos I've heard make the Works AB exhale sound great! Glad you took one for the team!

This is the reason why I wanted to go with a dual exhaust or at least a dual exit muffler. It's because you can get equal to or greater flow than a single exit and they are quieter when compared to a single exit muffler with equal flow. A single 4" muffler has equal airflow when compared to a dual 2" muffler... but just imagine a 4 cylinder car with a 4" muffler... yeah, no coffee cans here please.

If Bill will let you return the exhaust, I say do it and keep your money in your bank. Hopefully Injen or HKS will come out with a FED headerback sometime soon. Don't get the brain flash just yet because you will need to send your ECU back to Works so the ECU can compensate for each mod you install afterwards.

Still sucks about the whole thing... how'd you like the CAI?

I loved your Injen intake! Kinda wish I still had bought it...but whatcha gunna do....

That Injen gave your car a really wicked growl to it. I kinda wish I would have really gotten on it to really hear it....so maybe we'll have to get together another time & see what's what. But then again....it's really not my style to drive hard.
Really want to thank you for letting me drive your car today. If I can ever find another deal on the intakes....I just might go ahead & get the Injen. Or if you want me to wait & get the K&N....I'll take another one for the team LOL!

Maybe we can have another mini get together for the Chi town before the summers over.....maybe by that time I'll have something else done to the car.
Very cool meeting you today Willy

Haha, normally I don't let anybody drive my car, but I can tell by the way you drive and maintain your car, I knew I could trust you with Ol' Blue. Believe it or not, the K&N will actually be louder than the Injen because the filter on SRIs sit right behind the heatshield, so all the suction will occur right in front of your dashboard rather than in front of your wheelwell.

As for the next Lancer meet, be it mini or huge, I say we shoot for Labor Day weekend. Maybe we can get people from the other forums in on it too! Hopefully by then, I'll have my exhaust and tints done.

Well here are the pictures that I promised & a short video sound clip. Actually the sound clip doesn't sound too bad AGAIN on the video (shot with my Sony W170 Camera) but in real life it is just too loud for my taste.

Willy...thank you again! If you thought my car was in good shape today...you should see it on a good day :P Normally it is much better than what it was...even with all the chips! Mmmmmm chips!

Anywho....heres the link to the pics:

Yeah, I put Philips DiamondVisions for my highbeams because I have 5000K HIDs for my lows and fog lights. The stock highbeams were yellow in color when compared to the HIDs. The bulbs on these are blue, so the color is reflected off the reflectors.

I also have the Philips SilverVision turn signals. They get rid of the amber tint from the stock turn signals, but they still turn amber when used. Gives it a nice clean look.

I tell people that my car has blue eyes

The video doesn't sound too awful. I acutally like it, but that sucks its too loud. At least Bill said you can send it back. did he give you an estimate on how long before they bring out a new one?

Yeah its bad if you get laughed at by people in mustangs. Thats a new low I think

"That's a new low I think"

That's why they call me SixFeetDeep. You ain't gettin no lower than me!

Bill gave me the thumb up on the return for a FULL credit on the EXHALE. I told him to keep my $$$ until the new version comes out.
He wasn't 100% sure....said he was going to talk to a few guys around the shop to see what's goin on with it.
I'd be guessin 2-3 months...........we'll see.

Yeah the video sound
