These guys may be coming off a little negative, but they are just trying to look out for you. Installing a turbo is like having a kid, you think it'll be all right at first when their babies, then they grow up a little bit and suck your wallet dry. My first turbo project (keep in mind, the amount of cars I had owned previous was in the double digits) was a 1995 Nissan 240sx. It started off okay, a few hundred here, a few hundred there...then came the rebuild....a couple thousand here, a couple thousand there. Granted, I did the research myself and built my own turbo kit, and getting a turbo kit already packaged is alot cheaper, but you know what happened?? I get everything put together and running, and I go to get the car dyno-tuned, and I blow the freakin head-gasket!!!...gotta tear everything back apart. I still have that car to this day, and it still sucks my wallet dry with the maintenance! Our engines are not designed to run forced-induction, its like putting a square peg in a round hole. My advice to you, if your dream is to turn a stock Lancer into a speed-machine, DO IT, but wait until you have the experience. Talk your parents into buying you an older project car like a S13 240sx or an older Eclipse, and build that up yourself. Don't void your Lancer's warranty now. Build the crap out of the project car for the experience. If you have a Auto Tech class offered at your school, take that. Just get some more experience under your belt before you tackle a big project like a turbo.
PS-My first car was a 1991 Nissan 240sx (I've had 3 240sx's total) and I worked for 3 yrs at a pizza joint to pay for it.

QUOTE(fullmetalpanic @ Aug 13 2008, 09:10 PM) Don't bother.... hes 16 and he obviously knows everything there is to know. He'll learn a hard lesson someday when mommy and daddy aren't there anymore. We can laugh when he blows his engine, and be happy with the knowledge that we truly own our lancers

Your prob is your parents...any parent that buys a child a $20,000 car who clearly did not earn it, is a bad parent or at the very least they are teaching you bad lessons. Nothing in life is free, let me repeat nothing. You will never be happy with your car, why, because you didn't work hard to earn. When you get older, work for a living, and have to save and use your own money to make thousand dollar purchases, you will then appreciate the item much more. It's satisfying to know a hard days work got you where you are and got you the things you own. It is very unsatisfying to get things for free, as you have proved, because your not happy with your free car. If you paid for it, I guarantee you'd be more than happy with it. If your parents continue to hand things to you on a silver platter your whole life will be very unsatisfying which in turn will lead to things like drugs and alcohol to fill the missing void. Grow up and do yourself a favor, tell your parents you want to start making payments on the car and be a responsible person. Tell them you don't want things for free. You'll be better off in the end. No one is jealous of you, in fact we are concerned your learning bad life lessons. Listen to the advice here, we were all 16 at one time. (btw - owning a turbo shouldn't be a dream, you have to shoot higher than that dude, a turbo is just a material possession, a dream is playing in the nfl, or being a nascar racer, or being president, etc)

LMAO!!!
So much drama. It'll be a while before a full turbo kit/system is available anyway. But obviously he is determined to do this, for better or for worse... and it probably doesn't matter if something goes wrong w/ his lancer, cuz his parents can probably buy him a new one.
But i can't lie, reading thru this whole thing..... I kinda want to know how it ends, when he gets his turbo in his lancer.
Bo38, if you're willing.. try and find a company or shop that is interested in creating a turbo kit.. same as every other R&D you supply the test car and they hit you off w/ the finished product. Depends where you live tho, Cali would be your best bet, as everything seems to be going on there. Good Luck :gunsmilie:
