true...but would it be notically different than an 18g?

It all really depends on what he wants and how he will be running it.

OP, what is your hp goal? Will it be track only, DD only or a mix of both? If it's gonna be track driven, what type of racing? Drag? Autocross? Road course?

Give us some info on your plans and we can pretty much give you a setup.

its AWD so it can probably handle some power with bigger tires

Oooookaaaayy.. here is what I would go for:

Obvisouly you dont want TOO mucch power if it is gonna be your DD as well.

1) T3/T4 hybrid or Big T-28 or 18g turbo
2) 700cc+ injectors
3) ported tubular or log-style exhaust manifold
4) Medium - large FMIC with 2.5" IC piping
5) SAFC2
6) NGK plugs
7) A good set of performance wires
8) ebay intake with K&N filter
9) about 8.8:1 forged pistons
10) forged rods
11) ported O2 housing
12) crushed 1g BOV
13) depending on the turbo you choose you might need an external wastegate (Not too knowledgeable on wastegate sizes someone else will ahve to help you here)
14) Wideband O2 + gauge (Best one is AEM UEGO)
15) good boost gauge
16) any other gauges you think you will need
17) walboro 255lph fuel pump
18) AFPR
19) ACT 2600 clutch ( gonna be pretty annoying at stoplights but at this setup you WILL need it)
20) Normally I would say bigger cams but that will make your idle REALLY rough and might become a nusaince as a DD.. your choice on this one.
21) Titanium valvs, stems, and retainers

Am I missing anything?

With this setup you will hit mid to high 12s for sure. also a solid build for an autocross car. Just try to baby it on the streets lol.

You need the clutch to handle all that power. the stock clutch wont last but a few miles with that setup. Also, that clutch has alot of "push-back", meaning when you push on it it wants to push back on your leg and your leg gets tired easily.

its 210hp stock.....not sure if thats from all-wheels or not..but if its from the crank then its still close to 200. So that doesn't make sense. My friends have fast as shit cars that werent fast as shit when they got em and they have had stock clutches for a LONG time...just sayin

Drives: 1996 Talon AWD. Built, but no longer drives: 1997 mitsubishi eclipse RS; 1990 Talon AWD; 1995 Talon AWD, 1997 Talon AWD. Seems like a pattern

jon that's a good list but IMO if he wants to autocross I would change a few things. I'm speaking in terms of building a full out race car that would also still be streetable (entire list):

EVOIII turbo, EVO III ported exhaust manifold, EVO III ported O2 housing, 3" turbo back with straight through muffler only, ford stainless manifold studs, stainless turbo gaskets

blended 6-bolt head with polished exhaust ports and roughed intake ports, ferrea valves, ferrea springs, manley retainers, revised lifters, ARP head studs, mitsu metal head gasket, magnus cast intake manifold, 65mm 1gnt throttle body, heat barrier gasket, 3 layer copper exhaust gasket

7-bolt block, ARP main studs, calico coated bearings, Eagle 2.3L knife edged crank with complementing manley rods and wiseco pistons, .040 over bore, external setrab oil cooler

EVO VIII intercooler, 2.5" piping, GM MAF blow through with MAFT, tial BOV

-8AN fuel feed and return lines, fuel lab or aeromotive AFPR, 650-750cc injectors, DSMLink, magnecor spark plug wires, NGK 2 step cold plugs, MSD ignition driver

+1 on the clutch, B&M short throw shifter, Shep or magnus dog box with quaife instead of welded center(to keep it streetable), syncro shift fluid

full roll cage and seats with 5pt harness(of course), complete gutting, fire extinguisher(you never know out in the wilderness), fire suit with hand and head gloves, DC sports racing shoes, approved helmet,

coolant temp, LM-1 wideband o2, boost, oil pressure gauges

fully adjustable tokico coil over struts(stock height), all 4 brakeman brakes with complementing wave rotors(for dirt), stainless brake hoses, high temp brake fluid, entire under engine bay skid plating, front end geometry

obviously this could get very expensive, but IMO would be ideal for autocross. I've never raced it but I want to eventually and have been working on my own car to get to that point

The stock car is rated at 210 to the crank which is about 160 AWHP
